WASHINGTON, DC- This much appears clear—the Trump administration has had it up to its eyeballs with sanctuary jurisdictions and is stepping up immigration enforcement in those locations.
News Nation reports that U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) is planning to step up its presence in sanctuary cities, jurisdictions which defy U.S. immigration law.
In a statement posted this weekend on X, the Department of Homeland Security (DHS) announced that ICE has begun a “surge in sanctuary cities” as part of the administration’s crackdown on illegal aliens.
Among those jurisdictions identified include California, Colorado, Connecticut, Delaware, Washington, D.C., Illinois, Minnesota, New York, Oregon, Rhode Island, Vermont, and Washington State. All those locations are so-called “blue” areas and are controlled by Democrats.
The crackdown came only days after a Venezuelan illegal alien who attempted to elude authorities was shot while in his car in Austin, Texas. Democrats have pounced on the incident to once again claim that ICE is a rogue agency despite all the facts not yet being known.
Wilber Rafael Perez was briefly hospitalized, however, he was discharged within a few hours and taken into ICE custody, who still has a bullet lodged in his back. It does not appear that he was seriously wounded.
That has not stopped anti-ICE and anti-law enforcement democrats from seizing upon the incident to push a narrative.
“ICE’s treatment of Wilber amounts to torture. After being shot in the back, he has received next to no medical care—despite being in excruciating pain and losing movement on his left side,” complained Rep. Joaquin Castro (D-TX). “He should be in a hospital, not held in isolation at the South Texas Immigration Processing Center. He had permission to work in the U.S. and was delivering for DoorDash to support his family. Wilber must be released into medical care immediately.”
Despite some sources claiming that Perez was unaware he was being pursued, The New York Post reported that surveillance footage showed at least two law enforcement vehicles pursuing Perez with lights and siren activated before the shooting.
Meanwhile, DHS officials said that ICE “will continue to arrest any and all illegal aliens that come into our path” and said they are targeting “criminal illegal aliens” who have been “released from jails by sanctuary politicians.”
Last week, DHS Secretary Markwayne Mullin slammed sanctuary jurisdictions and anti-ICE rhetoric from Democrats, Fox News Digital reported.
“The brave men and women of ICE, who are simply enforcing the laws mandated by Congress and protecting the American people, are under attack every single day. Since President Trump unleashed ICE to do their jobs, assaults against them have risen by more than 1,600% in the first year and a half of the administration,” Mullin said.
Mullin blamed the attacks on ICE on “vicious lies” being fomented by “sanctuary politicians and their foot soldiers who are involved in anti-ICE riots and other acts of violence.
“DHS is calling on these sanctuary politicians to stop attacking federal law enforcement, stop putting the needs of illegal aliens ahead of the safety of American citizens, and to start working with us to make America safe again.”
