Illegal Alien Causes Multi-Car Pileup After High-Speed Chase Through Baltimore

BALTIMORE, MD - An illegal alien from Honduras who entered the country in 2014 and was released by the Obama administration was taken into custody by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) agents in Baltimore after leading agents on a dangerous chase through city streets, causing a multi-car pileup, ICE said in a statement

ICE agents attempted to serve a final order of removal on Ever Omar Alvarenga-Rios last week. Alvarenga-Rios attempted to flee, driving recklessly through the streets of Baltimore, before slamming on his brakes, causing a collision. After causing the crash, Alvarenga-Rios attempted to flee on foot.

"ICE law enforcement followed their training and used the minimum amount of force necessary to make the arrest,” ICE said in a statement.

Alvarenga-Rios and two ICE agents were transported to a local hospital for treatment, including a concussion. Alvarenga-Rios is still hospitalized and in ICE custody.

“Obstructing law enforcement is a felony and a federal crime,” ICE said.

“Our officers displayed exceptional training and professionalism in bringing a dangerous situation under control after an illegal alien chose to recklessly evade law enforcement. Any claims that the alien in custody was denied access to his family or legal counsel are completely false,” said ICE Baltimore acting Field Office Director Vernon Liggins. “It is deeply concerning that some Maryland politicians continue to push a narrative that misrepresents how our agency operates. Just like every other law enforcement agency, officers are trained and authorized to respond with the level of force necessary to safely resolve a situation. It would be beneficial for our elected politicians to understand the details of the incident rather than promptly catering to illegal aliens. Nonetheless, we will not be deterred. We remain committed to the mission, and we will continue to prioritize public safety over politics.”

Illegal aliens have become increasingly emboldened, likely in part due to inflammatory rhetoric from Democrat lawmakers such as:

  • Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-NY) hosted a February webinar where she provided tips for illegal aliens to evade arrests at homes, workplaces, or in public spaces.
  • Rep. Dan Goldman (D-NY) posted an online video calling on illegal aliens to “make a plan” for ICE encounters.
  • Democratic Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass issued multilingual flyers and online resources advising illegal aliens how to evade arrest.
  • Gov. Gavin Newsom (D-CA) released guides and sanctuary laws advising illegal aliens how to recognize ICE, block entry, and defy arrest.

ICE said agents have seen an 8,000% increase in death threats and more than a 1,300% increase in assaults against them.

“We are once again calling on sanctuary politicians, agitators, and the media to turn the temperature down and stop calling for violence and resistance against ICE law enforcement,” ICE said.
