CHESAPEAKE, VA – An illegal alien who was the beneficiary of the Biden administration’s catch and release protocols earlier in 2023 was reportedly arrested this month for allegedly being drunk behind the wheel and causing a car crash that left a police officer’s skull fractured.

On August 19th at approximately 2:30 a.m., local authorities in Chesapeake, Virginia, say a driver crashed into a police cruiser near the intersection of S. Military Highway and I-464 while an officer was in the midst of a traffic stop, resulting in the officer being struck by the vehicle and knocked over the guardrail along the road.

According to officials, the individual behind the wheel was 30-year-old Yacarely Diaz-Castro, a Nicaraguan national, who authorities took into custody under suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Officers who responded to the scene reportedly discovered several empty beer containers on the floor of Diaz-Castro’s vehicle, as well as the suspect allegedly reeking of alcohol herself.

It was later discovered that Diaz-Castro was also not licensed to drive and had only been in the country for approximately seven months after reportedly entering without inspection and being released from federal custody pending an immigration hearing.

Diaz-Castro is now currently facing charges of maiming another resulting from driving while intoxicated, driving without a license, and misdemeanor failure to move over.

As for the officer struck during the traffic incident, later identified as Officer Daniel Torres-Alegro, he was reportedly transferred over to Sentara Norfolk General Hospital, where hospital staff later confirmed he’s suffered a skull fracture and a fracture of the C6 vertebrae.

A GoFundMe was established for the injured officer, which emphasized that Officer Torres-Alegro has a “long road” to recovery but added that his readiness to “protect the citizens” of his community outweighs any hindrances posed by his injuries.

“Daniel was left with critical injuries to his skull, neck, back and lower body," the site reads.

"Daniel has a long road ahead of recovery, but all who know him know he is unable to sit still and will be back before we know it. He is eager to protect the citizens of Chesapeake and support in this time will help him, his girlfriend and their children in the weeks and months to come.”

Jon Feere, the Director of Investigations at the Center for Immigration Studies, characterized Diaz-Castro’s presence in the United States as being the result of having been “welcomed” by the Biden administration by way of the reintroduction of catch and release.

The aforesaid controversial protocol sees illegal aliens caught entering the country without inspection being given a near-immediate own recognizance status while awaiting their respective immigration hearings, which the Biden administration has been credited with affording said statuses to well over one million illegal aliens.
