Illegal immigrant arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old on Long Island

LONG ISLAND, NY - On Friday, November 1st, authorities announced that an illegal immigrant who skipped an immigration hearing after being released into the U.S. after illegally crossing the southern border has been arrested for allegedly raping a five-year-old girl on Long Island.

According to the New York Post, authorities believe that there may be more victims. The suspect, 27-year-old Wilson Castillo Diaz, a Honduras national, has been accused of attacking the girl in Westbury on October 16th. As of this writing, investigators have not released any details about the crime, including whether Diaz knew the child prior to the alleged rape or who reported the incident to the police.

After the alleged incident, the young girl was taking to a local hospital for a medical evaluation. Nassau County Police Commissioner Patrick Ryder said investigators are still looking into the case and trying to determine if Diaz has any other alleged victims.

During a press conference, Ryder said, "In this case, this 27-year-old man did not wake up one day and decide "I'm going to rape a five-year-old girl.' So, we believe there may be more victims out there." Authorities said that Diaz, who was living in Westbury, does not have a criminal history record and that he illegally crossed into the United States near Rio Grande, Texas, in April 2014 when he was 16-years-old.

He was taken into custody by Border Patrol agents, but later was released after being served with a notice to appear before an immigration judge. Diaz failed to appear at his immigration hearing. It is unclear when he was supposed to appear before the judge. It is also not clear when he first came to New York or how long he'd been living there prior to the attack.

Nassau County Executive Bruce Blakeman said, "I can't stress enough how disheartening this is that this crime could occur against such a young girl who had her innocence taken away from here." He added that the alleged suspect "should not have been in this country." Blakeman said, "Nassau County is not a sanctuary county and for good reason because we try to keep out illegal migrants who haven't been vetted. We don't know who they are. We don't know where they came from. We don't know if they have a criminal record. But unfortunately, our state is a sanctuary state and the policies in Washington have made us a sanctuary country."

Blakeman told Fox News Digital that the Biden-Harris administration has done nothing to help with the influx of illegal immigrants at the border. He said, "Democrats say there's nothing wrong with letting kids in, [but] this defendant came in as a teenager. He was 16-years-old when he came in, illegally, to America, and now he's been hiding from the authorities for quite some time and commits this heinous act against a young girl. It's out of control."

He added, "He came in 2014, under the Obama administration, and he was released. He never showed up for any of his hearings. He's been loose in the United States. Who knows what else he's done?" He said, "We've got to get tough in securing our borders, and we've got to deport the people who came in illegally and send them back home."

U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) has been notified of Diaz's arrest and have issued a detainer for him, as noted by the police. Diaz will be deported after the criminal proceedings against him take place. He was arraigned on Wednesday, October 30th on a slew of charges, including rape, attempted rape, and endangering the welfare of a child. He is being held in the Nassau County Jail on a $200,000 bond.
