Deadly Indiana Shooting Prompts Police Appeal for Tip

INDIANAPOLIS, IN - At least two people are dead and five others are injured after a mass shooting that took place in the early morning hours on Sunday, September 21 on the west side of Indianapolis.

According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), officers were called to the 6800 block of Shore Terrace around 2:15 a.m., WTHR reported.

IMPD said that six males and one female were shot in the alleged incident. The two people who were fatally shot were adults.

Three of the victims are in critical condition, with police describing the condition of the other two as "serious but stable."

Those victims were taken from the scene by ambulances. One victim went to the hospital on their own, while another went to a local fire department for help.

The shooting happened outside in a parking lot.

"This is certainly heartbreaking. Obviously, you know we've had a busy night. Our metro officers have been extremely busy, and we're doing everything that we can to hold those accountable," IMPD Officer William Young said.

Anyone with information on the shooting is asked to call Detective Christopher Winter at the IMPD Homicide Office at 317-327-3475 or email the detective at Christopher.Winter@indy.gov. Tips can also be made anonymously to Crime Stoppers of Central Indiana at 317-262-8477.

This shooting came less than three hours after a triple shooting Saturday night, September 20 on the northwest side of Indianapolis. It is unclear at this time if the shootings are related.

According to IMPD, around 11:30 p.m., officers responded to the 5600 block of Georgetown Road on a report of a person shot, WTHR reported.

Upon arriving on scene, officers found three people had been shot. Police said that at least one "person of interest" in this shooting has been detained.

Both of these incidents happened after police had already responded to a shooting on the north side of Indianapolis that left one person shot. According to IMPD, that incident happened around 7:15 p.m. on Saturday, September 20, WTHR reported.

When officers arrived on scene, they found one person with a gunshot wound. The victim was reported to be in "critical but stable position."

IMPD Aggravated Assault detectives have arrested a man for his alleged involvement in this incident. The Marion County Prosecutor's Office will make the formal charging decision.
