LAS VEGAS, NV – 23-year-old Nika Nikoubin was arrested on multiple counts of violence after she stabbed a man with whom she was having a sexual encounter. After the woman admitted to the crime and explained her reasoning, she was sentenced only to three years probation.
Her unsuspecting victim, a man she met on the dating app Plenty of Fish, was stabbed in the neck with a kitchen knife by Nikoubin.
When offering her reason for the attack, she explained that she was seeking revenge for Donald Trump ordering the drone strike that killed Iranian General Qasem Soleimani.
In the course of the evening of the attack, the two went to a hotel room, where she blind-folded Daniel Trevino while having sex and then stabbed the man in the neck.
According to 8 News Now, “A Clark County grand jury indicted Nikoubin on charges of attempted murder with the use of a deadly weapon because of certain, actual or perceived characteristics of a person, and two counts of battery. Nikoubin later agreed to plead guilty to two counts of false imprisonment with the use of a deadly weapon.”
Police body camera footage showed the admission and reasoning that she provided authorities after the attack, saying it was done in revenge and out of spite.
“We were drinking a little bit and then — I guess we started to get into it and then I stabbed him. I mean the U.S. killed Soleimani. Lots of blood spilled,” she said. “So, I feel like, it’s fair that American blood be spilled.”
Trevino, who survived the attack, told the judge, Carli Kierny, that he has the scars to prove that the incident happened, but he had chosen to forgive his attacker. Trevino also said that whatever decision was made by the court was “up to the law.”
Nikoubin's attorney not only argued that she had a psychotic episode at the time of the attack, but also that the attempted murder charge was unwarranted as she only wanted to hurt Trevino, not intending to kill him.
Givig an account of being raped when she was 18, she told the court that she “did not fully realize the impact that this experience had on me and my mental health deteriorated.” Because of that account, coupled with having been in a mental health facility just days before the attack on Trevino, the judge issued the probation sentence.
While awaiting trial, Nikoubin returned home to Texas, where she attended the state’s flagship university. Campus police said that they had no knowledge that she was under house arrest in their jurisdiction. The university later banned her from campus, even though her lawyer claimed she had done nothing wrong.
The judge in the case said that the Dallas-area agency responsible for her monitoring only tracked her location and did not monitor to see if she violated curfew or other provisions of the terms.
Nikoubin migrated to the US from Iran when she was 12.
