Judge: Canadian PM acted illegally, used fake intel when he invoked Emergencies Act against Freedom Convoy truckers

OTTAWA, CN- You may recall that back in 2022, the “Freedom Convoy” of truckers in Canada faced unprecedented actions from the Trudeau government, including seizing their bank accounts while labeling the anti-lockdown truckers as being “far-right” extremists. Now, Rebel News is reporting that the Canadian government used “fabricated intelligence” to go after the trucker patriots.

Trudeau invoked the so-called “Emergencies Act” as a means to target the Freedom Convoy participants and supporters, failing to recognize their rights to protest. The Trudeau government had no such problems during the 2020 protests in the aftermath of the death of career criminal George Floyd.

According to an investigation conducted by Public, the Trudeau government availed itself of fabricated intelligence to target the Freedom Convoy. It was aided and abetted by liberal Canadian and US media.

“Central to Trudeau’s invocation of the Act was the alleged threat of right-wing extremism and violence, but new documents that podcaster Jeremy Mackenzie obtained through Canada’s freedom of information law show that this drastic measure was based on fabricated intelligence,” the Public investigation showed.

The complicit Canadian government allied media pushed the government narrative after Trudeau, a far-left liberal, accused Conservative members of the Canadian parliament of supporting a “fringe group” with “unacceptable” views. In essence, the Freedom Convoy truckers were defined as radicals.

As journalist Michael Shellenberger wrote on X, Trudeau “froze the bank accounts of 2022 “Freedom Convoy” protesters, claiming it was an emergency. But it wasn’t. And now, Public has proof that his government used fake intelligence to illegally frame protesting truckers as violent extremists.”

On Feb. 14, 2022, Trudeau and Finance Minister Chrystia Freeland invoked the “Emergencies Act” to put down protests in the capital of Ottawa and others across Canada. By invoking that act, law enforcement was permitted “to detain protesters, freeze their bank accounts, confiscate assets, and dismantle peaceful blockades.” The result was maddening.

For example, convoy organizer Tamara Lich was sentenced to 49 days in prison on one count of mischief. Much like those who dared to question the results of the 2020 election in the US, Canada likewise dropped the hammer on anyone who went against the preferred government narrative.

In an interview with Quebec newspaper Le Devoir, Supreme Court Chief Justice Richard Wagner on April 9, 2022, compared Freedom Convoy protesters to anarchists and hostage takers, according to Blacklock’s Reporter.

“What we saw on Wellington Street here was the beginning of anarchy where certain people decided to take other citizens hostage, to take the law into their own hands,” Wagner complained of protesters, whose only crime was causing what amounted to a traffic jam.

During the press briefing with Trudeau, Freeland claimed the Freedom Convoy threatened Canada’s “national security.” Last week, a Canadian federal court ruled Trudeau’s implementation of the Emergencies Act was unconstitutional.

Public also reported that the Canadian government pushed false information regarding the Freedom Convoy with the so-called “Five Eyes” intelligence apparatus to combine assets and target ordinary citizens. Five Eyes is an intelligence alliance composed of five countries–Canada, Australia, the United States, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.

“This scandal appears to add to a growing number of cases revealing the politicization of intelligence and security agencies across Five Eyes nations to achieve ideological, political, and counter-populist goals,” Public said.

The involvement of the Biden administration in this debacle is not surprising, given the US government’s targeting of anyone who doesn’t go along with the administration’s radical policies.

In ruling against Trudeau’s use of the Emergencies Act, a federal court found he “was not justified in relation to the relevant factual and legal constraints that were required to be taken into consideration.”

Justice Richard Mosley wrote that Trudeau’s action was “unreasonable” while infringing on Canada’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms, according to a report in The Guardian.

When he invoked the Emergencies Act, Trudeau claimed the measures would be limited in time and only apply to specific geographic regions.

“We are not preventing the right of people to protest legally,” adding he would not deploy the military. “The act is to be used sparingly and as a last resort.”

While a public inquiry last year found the Canadian government acted appropriately, the Canadian Civil Liberties Association and the Canadian Constitution Foundation sought judicial review, claiming Trudeau’s implementation of the Act violated the country’s Charter of Rights and Freedoms.

As expected, Trudeau’s opposition took the occasion of the ruling to slam him.

“Judge rules Trudeau broke the highest law in the land with the Emergencies Act. He caused the crisis by dividing people. Then he violated Charter rights to illegally suppress citizens, Pierre Poilievre, the Conservative leader, posted on social media.

Trudeau may have committed political suicide in targeting the truckers since his liberal government is currently polling far behind Conservatives with an expected election looming next year.

After the ruling, Freeland vowed the government would appeal the ruling, doubling down on the government’s decision to invoke the act.

“The public safety of Canadians was under threat, our national security, which includes our national economic security, was under threat,” Freeland said. “It was a hard decision to take.”

Freeland is a power hungry digbat. A deficit financing specialist. The country is broke thanks to her and Turdeau. They will be defeated.

I will always believe that if biden (lower case on purpose) would have had his way the vaccine would have been mandatory for US Citizens as well. I'm sure during his famous phone call to Trudeau he secretly wished he could force the vaccine on every American.
