LAWRENCE, KS - A 20-year-old man from Kansas City was reportedly found fatally stabbed in Lawrence earlier in August, with local authorities urging residents and potential witnesses to come forward with any information that may assist police with the investigation.
The Lawrence Kansas Police Department (LKPD) issued a press release on social media on August 30 regarding a 20-year-old man who’d been found fatally stabbed around the area of 7th and Massachusetts that same morning. According to the press release, LKPD officers were dispatched to the aforementioned area regarding a reported disturbance at approximately 2:40 a.m. when they happened upon the victim.
Officials say the victim was transported to an area hospital, where he was later declared deceased. LKPD confirmed the suspect, who has yet to be publicly identified, is still at large and stressed in its press release that they’re “asking any businesses who may have cameras in the area and any additional witnesses to please call dispatch” with respect to the investigation.
Massachusetts and 7th streets rest within the city’s famous downtown district, cited as a “pedestrian-friendly area” by the publication Explore Lawrence, which highlights the strip’s nightlife attractions rife with “shops, galleries, restaurants, cafes, pubs and much more.”
LKPD spokesperson Laura McCabe reportedly confirmed the victim has been identified and his family has been notified about the incident, although personal details regarding the victim have not yet been made public by officials. Local reports note police and forensic teams were still working the scene as of 6:30 a.m. on August 30.
