“Infuriating”: Kentucky Man Who Killed 6-Year-Old During Home Invasion Freed After 8 Years in Prison

VERSAILLES, KY – A man who brutally murdered a 6-year-old boy and went on to attack the boy’s siblings and father with the same knife used to slay the child back in 2015 was released from prison after only serving roughly half of a twenty-year sentence, being given an early release for “good behavior and education credits.”

On December 7th, 2015, Ronald Exantus broke into the Tipton family home in Versailles with a kitchen knife in hand, entering the room where 6-year-old Logan was sleeping and began slashing and stabbing the child. Logan’s sister, Koral, remembers the attack vividly, telling a local Fox outlet, “I woke up, and I heard Logan screaming, and all I could see was a man, a big man, over top of him, stabbing him.”

Logan’s other sister, Dakota, also witnessed the murder of her brother before Exantus turned the knife on her, telling news outlet WLKY, “He stabbed me in the back. And then stomped on my head.” Dean Tipton awoke to the chaos unfolding inside his home, confronting the man who murdered his son and was actively trying to kill his daughters. Exantus focused his attention on Dean at that point, stabbing him and tossing him roughly ten feet away.

Although Logan didn’t survive the unprovoked attack, the remainder of the Tipton family did. But what played out in Exantus’ subsequent trial in tandem with earning an early release from prison has left the Tipton family on high alert over concerns Exantus might one day return to finish the job.

In 2018, Exantus was found not guilty of Logan’s murder by reason of insanity but was instead sentenced to a twenty-year sentence for assault charges, which he didn’t even wind up serving half of, given his release this past October 1st. As for Exantus’ period for parole, it comes out to just shy of 8 months, as his post-release supervision ends on June 18th, 2026.

“He told [Dakota] that he was going to kill every one of us. So now I’ve gotta be on extra guard to protect my kids because I will not lose another one,” Dean said regarding Exantus’ early release from prison, adding, “I’ve had my talks with God cause I’m not afraid to tell you all, I told the court - if I ever cross paths with him, I will kill the man. I will kill him where he stands.”

Logan’s mother, Heather, is still shocked over the 2018 verdict and now her son’s killer being released early from prison, saying, “It’s infuriating that a six-year-old was killed sleeping in his bed and someone literally only did ten years in prison and he didn’t even do the time for that, he did time for assault charges.”

The most troubling irony amid the fallout of this family’s tragedy is that if Dean were to carry out his warning regarding if he ever crosses paths with Exantus in the future, Dean would likely serve a longer prison sentence than Exantus did for killing the man who gruesomely murdered his sleeping 6-year-old son.
