LAS VEGAS, NV - Las Vegas authorities say a bystander acting as a Good Samaritan was killed after intervening in a robbery of a female streetside vendor, with officials confirming a suspect is in custody.
On the evening of July 30 at approximately 5:00 p.m., Las Vegas Metro Police Department (LVMPD) officers responded to a shooting that reportedly occurred along the 100 block of Upland Boulevard nearby the intersection of Jones Boulevard and Alta Drive. According to officials, a woman in her late 20s was selling flowers along the roadside when a male suspect approached her and attempted to rob the woman of her flowers.
During the alleged attempted robbery, authorities say a Good Samaritan, identified as a Hispanic male believed to be in his late 30s, intervened, leading to a physical confrontation with the suspect. According to LVMPD Lt. Robert Price, the suspect shot the Good Samaritan during the struggle.
Despite being wounded, the man reportedly made it back to his vehicle and attempted to drive away before crashing into a tree. First responders found the Good Samaritan suffering from a gunshot wound at the crash site and transported him to University Medical Center, where he later succumbed to his injuries.
LVMPD officials confirmed the arrest of 28-year-old Rodger Harrison III in connection with the fatal shooting, who was reportedly apprehended nearby the scene of the incident after witnesses provided responding officers with a description of the suspect.
Harrison is currently facing charges of open murder, robbery, and carrying of a concealed weapon without a permit. Harrison’s first scheduled court appearance is slated for July 31st.
