Chicago Mayor Brandon Johnson learned this first hand- when he was loudly booed and confronted by concerned citizens in a Monday town hall, according to Fox News. Several brought up the prospect of the city borrowing money- after spending tens of millions of dollars to house, feed and clothe freshly arrived illegal aliens during Johnson's tenure.
Citizens spoke so critically fo the Democratic mayor that Johnson even demanded that law enforcement officers present at the town hall remove citizens he deemed as having forfeited their rights to speak on the basis of their speech.
City residents criticized in particular a $40 million loan taken out by the city to finance existing debt- questioning why the city was financing expenses that include resources for illegal aliens.
"You caused all this money to go to illegal immigrants," one woman told Johnson. "You're going to be held accountable for it."
Some critics of Johnson even took to wearing 'Chicago Flips Red' shirts as they broke down their policy criticisms of the Democrat.
"You spent over $574 million on illegal immigrants here in Chicago, Illinois since 2022," one man said of Johnson's record.
"Now, you still feel like you have to harbor these illegals, which is not a good idea. Can you do the job, Mr. Brandon Johnson? It's looking like you cannot do the job!"
Full video of the testy town hall shows Johnson confronted ceaselessly by Chicago residents harshly critical of his rule- a phenomenon that would surprise many who associate the city with a ruthless 'machine' form of establishment politics.
Chicago became one of several Democrat-governed cities which became a magnet for illegal aliens under the tenure of President Joe Biden- in great part because of the city's generous 'sanctuary' provisions, which enshine the aliens with rights to a generous suite of taxpayer funded benefits- as well as assurance that local law enforcement will not cooperate with federal authorities to aid in their deportations.
Johnson strongly criticized Republican elected officials such as Gov. Greg Abbott for transporting illegal aliens to his city, all the while funding the same aliens who arrived, according to the Washington Examiner.
Johnson faced fierce criticism from Chicago residents even after gaveling the meeting to a conclusion.
