COLMA, CA – Police in Colma, California arrested two suspects over the Fourth of July weekend at a local GameStop following what authorities described as a “physical altercation” stemming from a dispute over waiting in line for Pokémon cards outside of the store.
The unnamed victim was reportedly left with multiple lacerations and stab wounds via a shattered mason jar used during the altercation, according to police.
The Colma Police Department released a statement regarding the near-deadly July 5th incident which played out at the GameStop located off of Junipero Serra Boulevard.
Per the press release from the department, officers responded to the GameStop at approximately 9:22 AM after reports of a fight breaking out outside of the GameStop location, where a number of would-be patrons were awaiting the store’s opening in an effort to secure the latest restock of Pokémon cards.
Two male suspects, identified as 27-year-old Isaiah Calles and 49-year-old Miguel Orellanas-Flores, were taken into custody after authorities say the two had used a mason jar as a makeshift weapon against the victim following a dispute over cutting in line outside the yet-to-be-opened store.
“The argument turned physical when Orellanas Flores struck the victim in the back of the head with a glass mason jar.
The second male, Calles, then grabbed the broken shards of glass of the mason jar and began to stab the victim multiple times,” according to the statement released by authorities.
Video allegedly depicting the incident has made the rounds on social media, where three males can be seen arguing and eventually exchanging blows.
It’s unclear from the video available whether the mason jar allegedly involved in the incident came into play during the portion of the altercation filmed.
When police initially arrived at the scene, the two suspects had apparently fled in separate vehicles, however, police say the victim was able to provide photos of the two suspects’ cars.
Colma Police were able to locate one of the suspect vehicles near Junipero Serra Boulevard and Serramonte Boulevard, whereas Daly City Police located the second suspect vehicle at Gellert Park.
The unnamed victim was transferred to an area hospital following the incident, with authorities describing the sustained injuries as “life threatening” at the time.
Police say despite the severe nature of the injuries, the victim is currently in stable condition.
Orellanas-Flores and Calles are currently housed at the San Mateo County Jail and are facing charges of assault with a deadly weapon, assault with a deadly weapon causing great bodily injury, battery with serious bodily injury and conspiracy to commit a crime.
The investigation into the incident is currently ongoing, according to police.
