Massachusetts Governor in Denial as Sanctuary Cities Harbor Criminal Illegal Aliens

BOSTON, MA- The intersectional governor of Massachusetts, Maura Healey, is one of a number of Democratic governors who have openly defied President Trump’s crackdown on illegal aliens. Yet Healey bizarrely claims that Massachusetts, previously considered the “cradle of liberty,” is not a sanctuary state. 

The Boston Globe reports that on Sunday, Healey was appearing on DNC-state media MSNBC (or is it MSNOW?) and slammed the Trump administration for targeting Massachusetts and other “sanctuary” states for expanded enforcement of immigration laws. She called the increased activity “insane” and “wrong” during that appearance. If anyone understands the meaning of “insane,” it’s Healey. 

Healey claimed without basis that the administration’s expanded enforcement of immigration laws “isn’t about public safety, it’s about political theater…and an attempt to intimidate.” 

Healey made that statement despite numerous cases of illegal aliens being involved in heinous crimes, from the murder of college student Laken Riley to the truck driver who made an illegal U-turn on the Florida Turnpike while operating a tractor-trailer, killing three.

There are a host of other such cases as well. 

Yet Healey is in denial of the crime problem exacerbated by illegal aliens. 

On Saturday, US Customs and Immigration Enforcement undertook a widespread dragnet in Massachusetts targeting illegal aliens.

In a post on X, David Wesling, acting field director of ICE Boston, said the Boston Police Department is conducting the arrests, noting there are “71 individuals out and about in the communities now, we still haven’t been able to locate.” 

The Globe reached out to the Boston PD, which deferred comments to ICE, which did not respond to requests by the outlet to provide updates on arrests, nor would they divulge how many additional agents are being directed to the Boston office, which covers the entire New England region. 

Boston Mayor Michelle Wu, another out-of-touch leftist, said on Sunday that no police or local resources will be used to assist in federal immigration enforcement or assist in the administration’s mass deportation efforts. 

“For months, ICE has refused to provide any information about their activities in Boston and refuses to issue warrants, while we hear reports of ICE agents taking parents as they are dropping their kids off at school,” Wu told The Globe in a statement. 

“This does not make our community safer,” Wu bloviated.

“We expect that federal law enforcement will abide by the constitution and laws of this City, Commonwealth, and country, and we are prepared to take legal action at any evidence to the contrary.” 

In May, an immigration sweep nationwide resulted in 1,500 arrests. Those arrested, according to federal officials, included people accused of sexual assault, drug trafficking, and gang activity, who were released from local jails despite immigration detainers being lodged against them.

ICE alleged Boston’s sanctuary policies have released dangerous criminals into the communities rather than being deported. 

Healey alleged on MSNBC that “construction workers, nannies, landscapers, [and] healthcare aides” have been “taken away in huge numbers…away from their families.” 

President Trump has been engaged in a war of words with Democrats from California Gov. Gavin Newsom to JD Pritzker of Illinois and Healey of Massachusetts, as well as Mayors Brandon Johnson of Chicago and Karen Bass of Los Angeles, over his administration fulfilling a campaign promise of mass deportations. 

Last week, the Department of Justice sued the City of Boston, Wu, and the Boston Police Department, arguing that the city’s sanctuary policies are obstructing federal law enforcement. Attorney General Pam Bondi has called Boston “among the worst sanctuary offenders in America.” 

However, Healy laughably claimed that Massachusetts isn’t a sanctuary state, nor is Boston a sanctuary city, despite overwhelming evidence to the contrary. 

However, according to CBS News, Massachusetts is home to eight sanctuary cities with a combined population of one million people. Healey cannot even define what a sanctuary state is. 

“I would leave that to others who call themselves that to define, but Massachusetts isn’t, and as I say, we continue to work regularly [with] local, state, and federal law enforcement when it comes to public safety.” 

The Center for Immigration Studies lists Massachusetts as a sanctuary state, along with California, Colorado, Connecticut, Illinois, New Jersey, New York, North Dakota, Oregon, Rhode Island, Utah, Vermont, and Washington. 

Meanwhile, Republican State Senator Peter Durant of Worcester, a vocal critic of Healey’s immigration policies, was asked if he believed the Commonwealth was a sanctuary state. 

“If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, and quacks like a duck, then it just may be a duck, and Massachusetts certainly looks and acts like a sanctuary state.” 

A 2022 CBS News report identified eight cities in Massachusetts as being sanctuary cities. They are Amherst, Boston, Cambridge, Chelsea, Concord, Newton, Northampton, and Somerville. 

Ironically, when Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis (R-FL) flew a planeload of illegals to Martha’s Vineyard in 2022, town residents couldn’t wait to ship them back to a military base on Cape Cod—typical NIMBY (not in my backyard).
