BILLERICA, MA- Fox News Digital reports that an illegal alien from Guatemala charged with rape and numerous other sex crimes in sanctuary Massachusetts was arrested by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) officers after being released from state custody, federal officials said last week.
Officials said that Rocael Ordonez-Cruz, 23, was arrested by ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations officers on July 23 at the Middlesex County House of Corrections in Billerica, Massachusetts.
Ordonez-Cruz entered the United States illegally at an unknown location and time without being inspected, admitted, or paroled by a U.S. immigration official.
Massachusetts officials had previously charged Ordonez-Cruz with rape and assault to rape. He also faces charges of indecent assault and battery on a person aged 14 or older, plus indecent exposure, ICE said.
“Rocael Ordonez-Cruz has not only displayed a blatant disregard for our laws by illegally entering this United States and later allegedly sexually assaulting our residents, he has also proven to be a threat to our neighborhoods,” acting Enforcement and Removal Operations Boston Field Office Director David Wesling said.
“The arrest of this alleged sex offender from the streets of Massachusetts shows our officers’ dedication to the safety and security of our New England communities. We will not stop finding and arresting dangerous criminal alien offenders,” Wesling continued.
Upon being released from state custody, federal immigration officials arrested Ordonez-Cruz and served him with a notice to appear before a Department of Justice immigration judge.
That notice initiates removal proceedings before that judge.
Ordonez-Cruz remains in ICE custody pending the outcome of those proceedings, the agency said.
Given Massachusetts’ status as a so-called “sanctuary state,” which doesn’t cooperate with federal immigration authorities, it is unknown the specific circumstances under which Ordonez-Cruz was arrested. Fox News Digital reached out to ICE for clarification; however, no response was received before press time.
