In a recent interview, Michael Letts, a law enforcement veteran and the founder and CEO of InVestUSA, delivered a sobering message about national security and foreign interference in the United States, particularly from China.
Letts appeared on the national broadcast of “The Steve Gruber Show” to discuss the recent conviction of a New Jersey restaurant owner for acting as an agent of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), a case he said highlights a much larger threat.
Letts emphasized that arrests like these are far from rare and criticized the political left for routinely defending foreign nationals who are arrested or deported, regardless of the charges against them.
“It doesn’t matter who gets arrested,” Letts said. “The left automatically thinks they’re being mistreated. But the truth is, these are often serious criminals escaping justice from their home countries or advancing hostile agendas within ours.”
He pointed to China’s increasingly aggressive actions on American soil, such as funding domestic unrest, setting up secret police stations, and buying up farmland and businesses to gain strategic control.
“China has declared open war on America—not with bullets, but through infiltration and economic subversion,” Letts warned. “Their tactics range from controlling supply chains to sending operatives into our communities disguised as small business owners.”
The case of the Chinese national in New Jersey, according to Letts, is not isolated. He believes there is evidence that many such individuals arrive in the U.S. with financial backing from the CCP and are under legal obligation to report back to the Chinese government.
“It’s not a conspiracy theory—it’s Chinese law,” Letts stated. “Any Chinese national is required to serve the Party’s interests, no matter where they are.”
Letts also addressed public sympathy for deported individuals who may have families or community ties in the U.S.
“People say, ‘He was a father of four’ or ‘He seemed so kind,’” Letts noted. “But if you commit a crime, you face consequences. That’s how justice works. Families are separated all the time in our own prison system—why should foreign nationals be treated differently?”
He warned that Americans have become desensitized and misinformed, a trend he attributes to liberal indoctrination in the media and education system.
“They’ve been brainwashed into believing that compassion means allowing threats to walk freely among us,” Letts said. “But the Constitution doesn’t say we’re here to uplift the world. It says we are to defend the American people first.”
Letts concluded by calling for a return to strong national values, honest education, and secure borders.
“We’ve got to clean up our neighborhoods, stand for the truth, and start putting America first again,” he said. “And that includes holding accountable anyone—foreign or domestic—who threatens our way of life.”
