GENESEE COUNTY, MI - A man in his twenties has been convicted of premeditated murder after killing a woman as she waited in a car outside the man's brother's house.
The victim, 22-year-old Diamonique Shardai Jackson, was fatally shot outside a Flint, Michigan, home in March 2025 by 26-year-old Alexander James Aydelotte, according to a statement from Genesee County Prosecutor David Leyton. Aydelotte was convicted of first-degree premeditated murder, two counts of assault with intent to commit murder, and three counts of felony firearm.
The investigation began on March 28, 2025, when Aydelotte was at his brother's residence armed with a handgun and in a tactical vest. He later told police that he was attempting to "secure" the home, which had been recently vandalized, PEOPLE reported.
Seth Andis, a former roommate of Aydelotte's brother, had arrived at the residence to feed puppies he had dropped off at the home earlier that day. Andis, however, turned around after he noticed the lights were on and the door was open. At this time, evidence shows Aydelotte "stepped onto the front porch and fired multiple shots" at the vehicle Andis had driven to the residence.
Two of the rounds hit Jackson, who was seated in the backseat, killing her. Andis managed to escape and flagged down police. Upon arriving on scene, officers found Aydelotte in an armor vest, claiming his shot was in self-defense. He later told police he saw a pistol being exchanged by two people, according to Leyton. He, however, did not specify who the two people were.
There was no evidence presented during the trial to substantiate this claim, Leyton noted. Jackson, lovingly known as "Pie," was a devoted mother who was "loving, goofy, and feisty," her family said in an online obituary.
"She loved dancing, singing, and trying new restaurants,” read part of the tribute, adding that she was “always dependable." A GoFundMe has been set up to help her toddler, who is now left without a mother.
So far, a little over $3,500 of its $5,500 goal has been reached.
Leyton condemned the killing, claiming in his statement that Jackson "never had a chance." Aydelotte is scheduled to be sentenced later this month.
