Special education teacher busted for sexual relationship with student, buying alcohol, drugs

OAKDALE, MN— Ann Margaret Bacon, 24, a former ppecial education teacher of Hastings, MN was arrested and arraigned Monday on charges that she had sex with a student multiple times in rented motel rooms.

Bacon, who until Thursday was a teacher at Tartan High School in Oakdale, MN, allegedly began a sexual relationship with one of her students in May 2023, provided alcohol to minors, and also "smoked weed" with them. Though the victim is currently 18 years old, he was a student of Bacon's at the time the relationship began. Her students had developmental and cognitive disabilities according to USA Today.

The criminal complaint against Bacon stated that a witness against Bacon came forward in February stating, "as a special education teacher, had access to vulnerable students." Another witness told law enforcement officials she was in a relationship with Bacon's victim until she found that he was still in contact with her. She told officials that she found sexually explicit texts and images including nude photos of the teacher on the victim's phone.

Per local outlet KSTP-TV, School officials contacted Bacon who, at the time, denied having an inappropriate relationship with the student. At first, the victim told his now ex-girlfriend that he and Bacon began having sex in May 2023. He later told investigators that he only started having sex with her in July 2023, after he graduated.

However, photographic evidence from his phone and hotel records contradicted his latter claim. Bacon also denied having a sexual relationship with the student several times until being confronted with the evidence. The former teacher then admitted to having sex with her student a "handful" of times according to the report.

Bacon reportedly resigned from Tartan High School where she was also a varsity assistant for the dance team.

The school district for Tartan High School told reporters that Principal Bethany DeCent shared the following message with parents Tuesday: “I am writing to inform you of the recent resignation of a Tartan teacher, Ann Bacon. We have been informed by local law enforcement that Ann Bacon is being investigated for alleged misconduct.

“Please be assured that the trust and safety of our students remain our utmost priority. We are cooperating fully with law enforcement’s investigation and will continue to do so throughout the process. We understand that this news affects our school community. School counselors and administrators are available for any students needing support."

The relationship reportedly ended in July but was rekindled in November. The victim allegedly told police he and Bacon were now dating, and that he stays at her apartment per USA Today.

Bacon is charged with felony third-degree criminal sexual conduct. Her first court appearance was Tuesday and she is due back in for an omnibus hearing on March 20th.
