SAN BERNARDINO, CA - A man in his sixties was arrested after his roommate's remains were found in a shallow grave in the backyard of their home more than a month after he disappeared.
On Tuesday, August 4, the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Office confirmed that the remains of 61-year-old Daniel Howard Joslin, of Yucca Valley, had been located in the yard of a home in the 58000 block of Carlyle Drive, PEOPLE reported.
Joslin's roommate, 60-year-old Cris Jones, was arrested and is currently in custody on suspicion of murder in connection with Joslin's death.
Morongo Basin deputies were notified of a missing person at approximately 7:30 p.m. local time on July 3. At the time, friends and family of Joslin said they had not had any contact with him in 10 days. It was believed that he may have been traveling to Oregon, but no evidence was found to confirm those plans.
On July 29, Morongo Station Detectives obtained a search warrant and later searched the home he shared with Jones. Upon searching, detectives came across a shallow grave. In it were remains. Detectives from the Sheriff's Specialized Investigation Division — Homicide Detail were called to the scene and took over the investigation.
The Coroner's Division and Crime Scene Specialists assisted detectives in removing the body from the property. They were later able to positively identify the deceased as Joslin.
After Jones was identified as a suspect, authorities issued an arrest warrant and Oregon's Clackamas County Sheriff's Office assisted with his arrest on August 2. As of Tuesday, August 4, Jones remains in custody in Oregon. He is pending extradition to California.
A motive and exact date of death have not yet been released. Anyone with information related to this case is asked to contact the Morongo Basin Station at 760-366-4175.
