Mom wanted by police, FBI for allegedly murdering two of her kids and attempting to murder the third

COLORADO SPRINGS, CO - Local law enforcement along with the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) are actively searching for a mother who allegedly murdered her two children the week before Christmas.

According to reports, the case started on Tuesday, December 19th, when police received reports of a burglary at a home on Palomino Ranch Point. Upon arrival, police said that they found a nine-year-old girl and a seven-year-old boy dead inside of the house.

The mother, 35-year-old Kimberlee Singler and her other daughter, who is 11 years old, were treated for injuries and taken to the hospital for further assessment and treatment. However, as the case unfolded and the investigation continued, the evidence did not point to a burglary.

Police said, "...The initial report of a burglary was unfounded."

Now, the Colorado Springs Police Department (CSPD) has issued an arrest warrant for Singler, who they say faces multiple charges including first-degree murder, attempted murder, child abuse, and assault in the first-degree. Two of the first-degree murder charges are specific to the death of a child under the age of 12. Two of the child abuse charges address knowingly or recklessly to cause the death of a child.

Singler was last seen on December 23rd and her current whereabouts are unknown. CSPD has requested help from the FBI in their search for Singler, but according to the FBI, CSPD remain the lead agency on the case. Police spokesman Ira Cronin said that police have reason to believe the mother has left the area.

He said in a statement, "We do believe this person is obviously dangerous. We don't know if she is armed. If anyone spots her, we would ask them to call 911. Do not approach her." In a statement to PEOPLE, police confirmed that the 11-year-old daughter is "recovering well and is safe and accounted for here in the Colorado Springs area."

The court has already set a $10 million bond in the event that she is found and arrested. According to CBS News, a lawyer for Kevin Wentz, the father of the children, released a statement saying that the family is "currently in a tremendous amount of grief and shock."

The full statement, which was obtained by KKTV, said, "This afternoon a news release indicated that the police are seeking information concerning the whereabouts of Kimberlee Singler in connection with the murder of two of her children and attempted murder of her other child.

"Since the news release, Kevin Wentz and the Wentz family have received multiple phone calls and other attempts to obtain comment. Mr. Wentz and his family are currently in a tremendous amount of grief and shock.

"The family is respectfully requesting that you honor their request for privacy at this time so they may grieve and gather more information as it becomes available. Mr. Wentz and his family will comment on the investigation at a later date."

This remains an active investigation and anyone with information or who is a witness to this investigation is asked to call the CSPD at 719-444-7000 or if you wish to remain anonymous, you can call the Crime Stoppers Tip Line at 719-634-7967 or 1-800-222-8477.
