NANTUCKET, MA- Well Massachusetts, you reap what you sow, even in the hoity toity enclave of Nantucket, the summer playground of the rich and famous.
According to PEOPLE Magazine, Nantucket police reported that they have arrested four men in connection with a kidnapping, home invasion and assault. The victim was found tied up with an extension cord at a Nantucket home.
NBC-10 in Boston reported that at approximately 4:30 p.m. local time on Thursday, July 16, the Nantucket PD responded to a report that someone was being attacked at a home on Essex Road. Massachusetts State Police troopers found the 28-year-old victim tied up with an extension cord. He was treated at the scene by Nantucket Fire Department paramedics and transported to Nantucket Cottage Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
The Boston Globe reported that the victim was bleeding from his mouth and nose and his face was scraped, according to police.
Responding officers separated the victim from three assailants and later identified an additional suspect who was believed involved in the attack.
The victim told police he was jumped by the four men and taken to the Essex Road residence against his will, where he was punched, held down, and eventually tied up with the cord. The report didn’t divulge why the attack took place or provide the victim’s age.
The suspects were identified as Calray Brown, 31; Dijon Hazel, 30, Newton Lawrence, 34, and Alvin Barnett, 21, all Nantucket residents, Nantucket Police Chief Jody Kasper said in an email.
The victim told officers he believed at least one of the suspects struck him with a hammer. Witness video obtained by police showed the four suspects beating the victim in the parking lot of a local park.
The video appeared to show Lawrence striking the victim in the head with an 18-inch wooden stake, the police report said. Hazel and Barnett are believed to have punched the victim while he was being held by Brown, police said.
“Based on the provided video, all four individuals were actively engaged in preventing” the man from fleeing and attacking him, Officer Justin R. Johansen wrote in the report.
After beating the victim, the suspects brought him forcibly to a residence down Essex Road, Kasper wrote in his email.
Brown, Hazel, Lawrence, and Barnett were each charged with one count of kidnapping, one count of assault, 16 counts of assault and battery, and four counts of assault and battery with a dangerous weapon.
