NEW YORK CITY, NY - Another autonomous zone has emerged, this time in lower Manhattan. At this time, it does not appear to be covered by mainstream media.
Independent journalist Andy Ngo took to X on Sunday saying, “Far-left extremists are trying to occupy Zuccotti Park in lower Manhattan in a Palestinian version of 'CHAZ.' The autonomous zone declares the land is theirs and that the Zionists and “pigs” (law enforcement) are not allowed there.”
The Rumble video that accompanies Ngo’s post shows signs in the park that say things like, “welcome to the People’s Park” and “NYC resists with Gaza.” Also “Revolution until victory” and “no pigs/Zionists allowed.”
According to FOX5 News, a late March Pro-Palestine protest led to arrests after “protestors swarmed the New York Times building in Queens.” The article also states that a march was scheduled for Tuesday March 19 at 5:30pm and was starting at Zuccotti Park, the same park that now appears to be occupied by protesters.
Within Our Lifetime posted the call to march on their social media accounts calling it an “Emergency Protest for Gaza.” Another post on their page from February 12th says, “the more they try to silence us, the louder we will be!” with a video of a protest in Union Square.
Zuccotti Park is a 33,000 square-foot publicly accessible but privately owned park in the financial district. Formerly known as Liberty Plaza Park, the space is controlled by Goldman Sachs and Brookfield Properties.
Police and public officials are staying quiet so far on the occupation.
