PENNSAUKEN, NJ - Officers on the SWAT team swarmed a house for reports of a shooting and a barricade situation during the morning hours on Wednesday, September 16.
Officers and SWAT members responded to a home in the 4400 block of Bethel Avenue around 9:00 a.m. According to the Camden County Prosecutor's Office, multiple officers responded to the home after receiving a report of a possible shooting suspect barricaded inside, NBC10 confirmed.
Officials said the suspect appeared to be in the home alone. SkyForce 10 flew over the scene, where several police officers could be seen surrounding the home, some with their guns drawn toward the residence. A robotic dog was also seen being used by officers.
The dog was seen entering the garage of the home. A neighbor who spoke with FOX29 said they were shocked by the news in the normally quiet neighborhood. "Stuff like this doesn't really happen around here, so it's just a little shocking," the neighbor said.
In an update from the prosecutor's office, detectives are now investigating a murder/suicide involving family members located at that residence, according to a press release. Officers located a gunshot victim, identified as 59-year-old Janet Camacho, on the front steps of the residence.
The victim was transported to Cooper University Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased at approximately 9:38 a.m. A perimeter was established around the residence, and members of the Camden County Sheriff's Emergency Response Team responded.
At approximately 10:37 a.m., police located the male suspect deceased from a self-inflicted gunshot wound inside the residence. The suspect was later identified as 60-year-old Daniel Lopez. He was pronounced dead at approximately 10:41 a.m.
