New York City good samaritan fatally shot while breaking up a fight

NEW YORK CITY, NY - Richard Henderson, a New York City father, was shot dead on the subway Sunday when he attempted to intervene in an altercation between two fellow passengers according to NYPD officials who spoke with Fox News.

The department told reporters that Henderson was a passenger on the 3 Train through Brooklyn at approximately 8:00 p.m. Sunday when a verbal disagreement between two passengers broke out over loud music. Fox News reported that the man attempted to interpose himself between the two combatants and quell the argument. However, the person identified as blaring loud music allegedly pulled out a firearm and shot Henderson in the back and shoulder.

Police officers found Henderson on the train when it pulled into the Franklin Avenue station. He was transported to NYC Health + Hospitals/Kings County Hospital, where he died leaving behind his wife, three children, and two grandchildren.

The New York Post reported that Henderson worked at Avenues The World School in Chelsea, where he had worked as both a crossing guard and on the playground as part of the school's unofficial security detail. Students and parents both had praise for the man.

One student told the Post, "He was the sweetest guy I ever met. Always wanted the best for every student here. He would give every single kid a fist bump as they passed. Always had a smile on his face. We’re all going to miss him so much.”

The head of the school, Judy Fox, said that Henderson was "a beloved and cherished member of the Avenues New York community, serving as our crossing guard at 25th St. and 10th Avenue for the past decade." She added, "He came to work each day with a warm smile on his face and a kind word for all he came into contact with."

Fox News reported that the shooter fled the train at the Rockway Avenue station in Brownsville while Henderson's friend sought help. The NYPD is investigating and there have been no arrests as of this report.

"We’re just shell-shocked trying to make sense of it," the victim’s brother, Jermaine Henderson, told New York Daily News reporters. "My brother, he wouldn’t hurt nobody. He would give you the shirt off his back. He would help you.

"In a situation, he would be the first one to try to help. He was just about peace and wanting everybody to get along."

In a statement, the Avenues School wrote, "Richard Henderson was not only a guardian at the crosswalks of the school where he tirelessly worked; Rich was a guardian to all those lucky enough to know him. Rich was a peaceful man, who never had a quarrel with the world but lost his life trying to quell one. This profound loss has left his family, friends, and community in a state of shock and grief."

I'm not from NYC or Ny(thank God) but with all the lefty lib policies in place one would think there should be cams making it fairly easy to ID a suspect.
