BUFFALO, NY— A New York father, Dennis Hannon, 32, was recently stripped of his parental authority over his nine-year-old son after a four-year-long battle with his ex-wife. Hannon had stepped in when his ex-wife began treating the boy as a girl at age three, calling him "Ruby Rose" from the young age.
Amy Hannon reportedly hid the alleged "transition" of her son from Dennis. Whenever the father picked up his son, he'd be dressed normally as a boy. He was completely unaware of the "transition" until a school notice arrived referring to Matthew under the new name.
As reported by The Dailly Mail, Hannon was stunned. "I didn’t realize that when he was in his mom’s care, he was actually a girl named Ruby," he explained. “It was a unilateral, gender transition of my child. I had no say.”
According to Hannon's account, his ex-wife began bringing his son to a gender therapist and they recommended that Matthew be placed on hormonal modification, commonly referred to as "puberty blockers," beginning at age nine. Hannon took his ex-wife to court in 2020 to put a stop to it.
Hannon told The New York Post, "My son was never diagnosed with gender dysphoria." When reached for comment, Amy told the outlet that she didn't want to go into specifics but alleged the situation was not as clear-cut as Hannon states. “There are two sides to every story,” she said. “And after having read the [Daily Mail] story … the amount of lies in that story are quite appalling. It’s the child that’s important here.”
Dennis Hannon told the Mail that Amy "pushed" their son's "transition" and that Matthew was not distressed by living as a little boy. He added that a year after the court's ruling, Matthew reverted back to his original gender and behaved as "a regular little boy."
However, after losing the case and shouldering $150,000 in legal expenses, Hannon has lost all medical authority over his son. He even had to shell out $145 per week after a 2020 ruling for court-ordered visits to a gender therapist who didn't accept insurance and can do nothing to stop the hormonal modification of his son if his ex-wife goes forward with it.
He reportedly can no longer afford to take her to court again.
"He went there for a year and a half," Hannon said. "And there was still no diagnosis of gender dysphoria... If I refused, they would say that I was interfering with essential medical treatment, and they would remove my custody."
Hannon told the outlet, "It's very clear to me that it was all about pushing a narrative. Nobody wanted to question the agenda, or even question whether or not somebody actually had gender dysphoria, it was just, because she said that he was confused about his gender, it must be true."
According to The Daily Mail, names were changed to protect the identities of the parties involved.

When Hannon was finally fed up and terminated the counseling, his worst fears were confirmed: The therapist wrote to the court and his medical authority over Matthew was stripped away.
"It's been a nightmare," he told the Daily Mail. "It's completely destroyed my life. I spent every dime of my retirement," he said he even had to pay his ex-wife's legal costs.Hannon told the outlet, "It's very clear to me that it was all about pushing a narrative. Please advise the father to go public in some manner and create a go fund me. I promise many, many people, including myself, will donate.

This is a perfect example of divorced parents, (who already have personality problems) constantly fight over the children. Would the boy like to be with mother or father, and why?

I am amazed the father still has his senses, though no money or a voice in his son's "medical care." Yes, I agree a fundraiser will generate enough cash to help his efforts to free his son from parental abuse.

This is just so wrong! This child has not been proven to be confused about his gender except by his Mother who insists that he is a she! This child is going to be so screwed up when he actually becomes an adult! It just is not fair to the Father, the Courts, and especially the child! Who is going to pay for his mental care when he becomes an adult? How about when he no longer wants to be identified as a she? This child has male sexual organs and DNA so he is in fact, a male, let him be a boy for crying out loud!
