FAYETTEVILLE, NC- Two failed carjackings on Sunday morning, in which three women were shot, have led to the arrest of a suspect, according to a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office news release, Fox-8 WNCN reported. Ironically, even though the news release identified a suspect and included a picture, the outlet did not publish that information.
According to a Facebook post, Robert Junior Page, 52, of Fayetteville was arrested and charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, Crime of Domestic Violence, Larceny of a Motor Vehicle, and Possession of [a] Firearm by [a] Felon.
According to the release, at approximately 7:03 a.m. on Sunday, August 30, sheriff's deputies responded to a 911 call reporting a shooting. On arrival, deputies found a female victim suffering from a gunshot wound. The victim, who was not identified, was transported to a local medical facility for treatment and was listed in stable condition.
Page fled the domestic disturbance before the arrival of law enforcement authorities. He was then involved in two additional shootings within Fayetteville Police Department jurisdiction. He was taken into custody by Fayetteville Police Department officers.
The sheriff’s office said the investigation is ongoing.
In the second series of shootings, Page, who had stolen a vehicle from the first residence, drove to a Hardee's in Fayetteville, where he shot a woman passenger during a failed carjacking of a Toyota 4-Runner in the restaurant’s drive-thru, police said. The driver went across the street to a Food Lion, where she called for emergency aid.
In the meantime, Page drove about two miles to another Food Lion food store where he shot another woman during another failed hijacking.
The two Fayetteville shooting victims were taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center, where they were reported in stable condition.
WRAL identified the third victim as Izzy Dolin, 24. Her sister told the outlet that Dolin was picking up a coffee before work and was approached by a man she didn’t know (Page) in the Food Lion parking lot. He told her, “I need this car,” the sister, Leighanna Bullard, said.
“She kind of laughed it off at him at first. He did push her, and then he shot her in the face,” Bullard said.
“I just don’t know how someone could do this. At seven in the morning. She was just trying to get coffee to go work her shift,” Bullard said.
A nearby bystander, Derrick Hicks, aided Dolin after she was shot. He told WRAL that as soon as he approached, Page fled.
“I don’t feel like a hero, just a normal person trying to help out whatever way I can,” he said. “One message I do have for her family; she is [a] strong, young lady. She is strong.”
Dolin’s family said she will need reconstructive surgery.
“I’m very thankful these women are still here, but you attempted to take a child away, a sister away, a girlfriend away, and that’s not OK,” Bullard said.
Arrest warrants confirmed that the first victim, who was unnamed, was Page’s girlfriend.
The Fayetteville Police Department posted a news release on Facebook outlining details of the incidents in their jurisdiction.
The agency wrote that at approximately 7:12 a.m. on August 30, officers responded to the Hardee's parking lot on Ramsey Street and located the victim, who had been shot. While at that scene, officers were dispatched to the Food Lion parking lot for a reported attempted carjacking and shooting. Officers arrived and found the victim (Dolin) at that location.
“With assistance from the Fayetteville Police Department’s Crime Information Center and witnesses, officers were able to locate the suspect. Displaying high levels of skill, training, and professionalism, officers were able to take the suspect [Page] into custody and without further incidents or harm,” the agency wrote.
Page was charged with Attempted First-Degree Murder, 2 counts; Discharging a Weapon into Occupied Property, 2 counts; Assault with a Deadly Weapon with Intent to Kill Inflicting Serious Injury, 2 counts; Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon; Attempted Robbery with a Dangerous Weapon; Possession of Stolen Goods/Property; and Possession of a Firearm by Convicted Felon.
He is currently being held without bond at the Cumberland County Detention Center.
