WASHINGTON, D.C. — NSSF®, The Firearm Industry Trade Association, is bringing the importance of secure storage of firearms and suicide prevention to the national airwaves with Health Uncensored with Dr. Drew.

NSSF President and CEO Joe Bartozzi will be a featured guest on an upcoming episode of Health Uncensored with Dr. Drew to speak about the imperative of securing firearms to prevent tragedies. The episode will air on Fox Business, May 10, between 5–6 p.m. (EDT).

“This is a truly a unique opportunity to talk to the American public about the firearm industry’s commitment to secure firearm storage and suicide prevention with a trusted leader and proven voice of healthcare in America,” Bartozzi said.

“And that’s what this is about. We want to make gun owners across America aware that there are resources available to secure firearms so they remain beyond the reach of those who cannot be trusted to possess them. Likewise, the firearm industry provides resources to firearm retailers and ranges to have a ‘brave conversation’ to prevent the tragedy of suicide.”

Bartozzi will speak to Health Uncensored with Dr. Drew about NSSF’s Project ChildSafe® secure firearm storage initiative. Project ChildSafe proudly partners with over 15,000 law enforcement agencies in all 50 states and five U.S. territories to provide free firearm safety kits to the public.

Those kits include educational material to educate gun owners on secure firearm storage and a cable-style locking device. When properly attached to a firearm, that locking device renders a firearm inoperable.

Health Uncensored with Dr. Drew will feature Bartozzi explaining NSSF’s “Brave Conversations” initiative, which includes a partnership with the American Foundation for Suicide Prevention (AFSP) and the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA).

NSSF provides educational resources, available at firearm ranges and retailers, to assist gun owners to get friends and loved ones struggling with suicidal ideations connected to health care professionals to prevent suicides.

Both initiatives are part of NSSF’s Real Solutions. Safer Communities® firearm safety campaign, which includes Fix NICS® initiative, to ensure the FBI’s National Instant Criminal Background Check System (NICS) has verifying background check records, Don’t Lie for the Other GuyTM, a cooperative public awareness initiative with the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosive (ATF) to warn against illegal firearm straw purchases and Operation Secure Store®, another cooperative initiative with ATF to voluntarily improve firearm retailer security to prevent and deter burglaries and robberies.
