NASHVILLE, TN – An off-duty police officer was reportedly injured during a physical altercation with a bouncer outside of a bar in the Midtown neighborhood of Nashville earlier in August, as reported by Nashville's WKRN News 2.
Few details have been made public regarding the altercation, but officials have confirmed the off-duty officer was critically injured during the incident.
According to local reports, the incident occurred overnight on August 16th outside of the Losers Bar and Grill located at the intersection of Division Street and Lyle Avenue. While it’s currently unclear as to what caused the altercation, authorities say an argument between the unnamed off-duty officer and the bouncer working outside the establishment turned physical, with the skirmish starting outside the bar and making its way over to Velvet Taco located across the street.
The off-duty officer was “critically injured,” according to local reports, having been allegedly struck in the head by the bouncer during the incident. Following the police response, the unnamed off-duty officer was transported to Vanderbilt University Medical Center and was last reported as being in stable condition. No arrests have been announced yet in the case, and the investigation is ongoing.
Although officials have yet to determine who may have been the aggressor in the altercation, reviews shared on Google about Losers Bar and Grill – particularly the negative reviews – seem to carry a common theme about issues with the bouncers working the establishment.
One review from 2024 mentioning issues pertaining to the bouncers reads, “The bouncers here are the worst of any bar I have ever been to. Ultimate chip on the shoulder complex for sure.”
Another past patron of the establishment had the following to say about their experience with the bouncers working the bar: “Saw reviews on the bouncers being disrespectful here and learned the hard way. After going there myself, I agree I’ve never felt more disrespected in my life, along with others in my group, because of the bouncer.”
Allegations of violence perpetuated by security at the establishment litter the online reviews of the bar, with one such review reading, “I saw a security guard manhandle a 100 [pound] woman and throw her out of the bar tonight around an hour ago. Then he proceeded to escalate the situation outside when other individuals saw him manhandling the woman and took issue with it.”
