MUSKOGEE COUNTY, OK - The verdict is in for a mother who was charged with several heinous crimes involving her preteen daughter: GUILTY.
It is widely believed that women have a “caretaker gene” in their DNA that allows them to look after and protect their children from dangers and threats at all costs.
But apparently that wasn’t the case for Cherie Walker, of Muskogee County, Oklahoma.
Prosecutors reported that Walker failed (miserably) to protect her 11-year-old daughter from none other than her husband, who continuously sexually abused her. He then fathered the preteen’s baby.
Disturbing sexual crimes like these often go unreported and never investigated. But not for Walker.
She was recently found guilty by a jury of her peers on one count of enabling child sexual abuse and six counts of child neglect, according to court documents.
The jury may have been fed up with the defendant, as they recommended a life sentence for each count. Walker will be officially sentenced by the judge in the near future.
“The verdict came after four days of testimony from emergency responders, law enforcement officers, medical professionals, Department of Human Services employees, church members and family members, according to the court docket. The jury ultimately found Walker guilty on all seven counts,” the media reported.
Authorities caught wind of several irregularities back in August of 2025. It was reported they received information that a young lady had given birth inside her home but did not receive any formal medical assistance or any prenatal care. They additionally learned that the young lady was only 11 years old.
According to the prosecution, the husband, Dustin Walker, was continually abusing the child and that the mother knew all about it, but failed to intervene and protect her child.
DNA taken from those involved confirmed Dustin was the father.
Authorities then charged him with one count of child sexual abuse (under 12) and two counts of child neglect.
“He was later sentenced to life in prison for the sexual abuse conviction, along with consecutive prison terms on the child neglect convictions,” the local media stated.
The crimes committed by Walker and her husband are reprehensible. There is no doubt that the innocent child will be dealing with the impact of such a crime forever. She was robbed of her childhood and her innocence.
“This child is traumatized. She’s been through a horrific ordeal. Not only has somebody gotten her pregnant, but she gave birth at home without medical assistance, and this will be her life for the rest of her life,” Assistant District Attorney Janet Hutson said in a statement to the press.
A third adult, the child’s grandmother, Michelle Justus, was also criminally involved in the incident but has pleaded not guilty to a count of child neglect. The details of her involvement are unclear at this time, but she will be next to stand trial this week.
We’ll see what a jury of her peers will decide.
