WASHINGTON, DC – With America’s 250th birthday celebration in full swing, high school athletes across the country are being afforded an opportunity to be considered for Freedom 250’s Patriot Games, a nationally televised event slated for this August where two winners will each win a $125,000 scholarship.
According to Freedom 250, the sporting event for student athletes aged between 14 and 17 years old will encompass “a series of demanding physical and mental challenges, culminating in the crowning of one male and one female Patriot Games champion,” with the events taking place between August 9th through the 11th which can be streamed on the ESPN app prior to a “a one-hour primetime ESPN on ABC special” on August 13th.
To be considered for eligibility, student athletes must be aged between 14 and 17 years old, be a U.S. citizen, be in good academic standing, and must upload a “unlisted” video to YouTube approximately 1-2 minutes in length explaining why they should be selected for the games. If selected, student athletes, accompanied by one guardian, will have “an all-expense-paid trip” to Washington, DC, to participate in this history-making event celebrating America’s 250th birthday.
Would-be participants can expect to have their skills tested in “beloved American sports, including elements from football, basketball, soccer, track, and more,” according to Freedom 250. While the events are built around testing degrees of athleticism, the overall message and meaning behind the spectacle is “to inspire and showcase the values that have shaped the United States for nearly 250 years.”
This country was shaped by young people who strived for excellence and challenged themselves in the process – so there’s nothing more fitting than celebrating the youths of today during America’s 250th via spirited competition. Many will enter for consideration, a handful will be selected, and two winners will be crowned this August before the whole country at the 2026 Patriot Games.
