Pennsylvania man threatens, stabs his girlfriend to death, and wounds her brother over her haircut

EAST HEMPFIELD TOWNSHIP, PA- A Pennsylvania man is facing charges related to the fatal stabbing of his girlfriend, 50-year-old Carmen Martinez-Silva, and an assault on her brother.

According to reports, Martinez-Silva was found dead at her brother's home, leading to the arrest of Benjamin Garcia, 49. He reportedly stabbed her to death over her haircut, and attacked her brother, Luis Martinez-Silva, and two other people when they tried to intervene.

According to PennLive, the incident took place on Nov. 3rd and began when police were called to the home of Martinez-Silva's brother where she was found dead in the front yard. Martinez-Silva’s daughter, Yamaris Knight reportedly told Police that Garcia stabbed her after becoming upset about her haircut.

Court documents cited by the outlet revealed that Garcia allegedly threatened the victim and she spent the night at her daughter's home to avoid him. However, the next day, Martinez-Silva reportedly contacted Garcia and told him to collect his belongings from her home and that their relationship was over. Later Garcia arrived at Martinez-Silva's brother's home, where her brother attempted to turn him away, stating she wasn't there. However, Garcia left and returned shortly after and stabbed Luis after he answered the door.

A witness, who Garcia also slashed at told police that Carmen attempted to pull the two men apart, and Garcia stabbed her repeatedly. Luis sustained stab wounds to wounds to the base of his head, chest, and abdomen as well as slashes to his arm. He was hospitalized and is expected to survive. Carmen died from her wounds at the scene. A second witness arriving at the home found Garcia there with “knife in hand," and narrowly avoided being slashed.

Responding police found Garcia sitting in his vehicle with the knife, stained brown and red on the seat beside him. He was hospitalized for lacerations and placed under arrest. He is being held without bail. WHTM reported Garcia is facing charges of homicide, attempted homicide, aggravated assault, and reckless endangerment.
