WESTMORELAND COUNTY, PA - A man in his twenties surrendered to police on video after home security camera footage obtained by police showed him allegedly beating his own mother to death.
The alleged suspect, Jakob Korber, was captured kneeling and surrendering to Pennsylvania State Police (PSP) in a video from KDKA. The arrest was made outside of his mother Christin Hamilton's home on Herminie West Road in Sewickley Township, PEOPLE reported.
Hamilton's daughter discovered her body around 9:00 a.m. on Sunday, August 30. PSP Trooper Steve Limani said Hamilton appeared to have just taken a shower and was wrapped in a towel when Korber came to the residence and allegedly assaulted her for more than an hour.
"I can only imagine what she had to go through to find her mother in the state that she was found,” Limani said. “It’s a horrific thing for what the victim had to go through, and it’s disgusting to watch." He said that Korber confessed to the killing during an interview with police.
"I would say that there is a small part of remorse being conveyed during the subsequent interview,” Limani said. “But it lasted for over an hour. At some point in time, you could have stopped. And that’s not what happened."
Korber has been charged with a single count of criminal homicide, according to a press release from Westmoreland County District Attorney's Office. The DA's office said that Korber used his "hands, feet and multiple objects on the front porch to assault Hamilton" after they were seen arguing on the front porch. The nature of the argument has not been disclosed.
Hamilton was pronounced dead at the scene when police arrived. Korber was arraigned on Sunday and is now being held without bail. He is being held at Westmoreland County Prison. His preliminary hearing is set for Monday, September 14.
