Arrest made in Pelosi's police-defunded San Francisco after train conductor stabbed repeatedly in "random attack"

SAN FRANCISCO, CA- BART (Bay Area Rapid Transit) Police have arrested a suspect wanted in connection with the stabbing that occurred on an Antioch-bound train as it approached 24th Street and Mission Station.

According to ABC7, the incident happened in the morning hours on Saturday, November 2nd. The suspect, a 34-year-old man, was spotted by a station agent at Fruitvale Station on Sunday, November 3d, around 2:00 p.m. A press release from BART said that the station agent contacted BART Police, who responded and arrested the suspect without further incident. 

The suspect, identified as Jovany Portades, was caught on one of BART's 4,000 surveillance cameras. The initial image of Portades helped police identify him as the suspect. A 54-year-old woman was stabbed in the unprovoked attack. The victim was helped by a station agent until police arrived, at which point she was taken to a local hospital with serious injuries. As of this writing, the woman remains in critical condition at San Francisco General Hospital.

In a separate incident, authorities with the New York Police Department (NYPD) are investigating a deadly stabbing that took place on a subway in Brooklyn. According to reports, officers responded to a call about an assault on a southbound N train at Stillwell Avenue in Coney Island around 11:30 p.m. on Tuesday, October 29th. Upon responding, officers found a 54-year-old man stabbed in the back.

The victim was taken to a nearby hospital where he was pronounced dead. Police said they are looking for a suspect in his 30s who is bald and was wearing a green shirt and aqua shorts at the time of the attack. He was last seen running toward Stillwell Avenue. As of this writing, it is unclear what prompted the attack or if the suspect and victim knew each other prior. Anyone with any information is asked to call Crime Stoppers at 1-800-577-TIPS.

CBS News reported that a subway operator was stabbed by a rider at a station in Brooklyn. Myran Pollack, an MTA conductor for more than 25 years, was hospitalized days after being attacked. Pollack was critically injured at the Utica Avenue station in Crown Heights after he said he told a man to get off the 4 train when it made the last stop. 

Police identified 27-year-old Jonathan Davalos as the suspect. Police said that he stabbed Pollack in the chest, torso, and leg with a large knife after getting into an argument with the conductor. Pollack said in a statement, "I'd never seen a knife that big outside of a kitchen. And he just kept stabbing and stabbing. I looked down to my side. I seen there was so much, so much blood. I couldn't see the platform."

Davalos' faces multiple charges, including attempted murder. With an indictment pending from a Kings County grand jury, Davalos is due back in court on January 23, 2025. According to MTA, Davalos has more than 14 prior arrests and was convicted of attacking another transit worker on a separate case.
