Not all heroes wear capes: Police in New Jersey save worker after being electrocuted

MORRISTOWN, NJ – During the summer of 2023, police officers from Morristown, New Jersey rescued a worker who’d been severely electrocuted on the job and was unresponsive upon arrival.

The official Facebook account of the Morristown Department of Public Safety shared the details of the heroic effort executed by members of the Morristown Bureau of Police this past August.

According to officials, officers responded to a call on August 14th regarding a reported electrocution that occurred along 34 Flagler Street of Manahan Village. While details on what caused the incident are scant, officials did note the victim was part of the crew completing unspecified building renovations in the Manahan Village area.

The first responding patrol from the Morristown Bureau of Police discovered the individual “unresponsive and entangled in a ladder leaning on overhead electrical wires,” where lifesaving efforts were employed immediately upon a safe securing of the potentially hazardous scene.

Thanks to the efforts from officers Kenneth Frohnapfel, Morgan Pfeil, Bruce LaFera, Paramvir Singh, Richard Rispoli, Emmanuel Margaronis, and Sergeant Brian LaBarre, the combined administration of CPR with an automated external defibrillator helped regain the injured worker’s pulse on the scene.

Paramedics with Morristown Medical Center arrived on scene shortly thereafter and transferred the individual to St. Barnabas Hospital in light of the severe electrical burns he’d suffered during the incident.

In the days following the incident and subsequent rescue of the injured worker, the Housing Authority of the Town of Morristown reportedly hosted a community event on August 18th at the Marion E. Sally Resident Center where the heroic officers involved on the August 14th call were recognized for their swift response and efforts that ultimately led to the injured worker surviving the ostensibly horrific ordeal.

During the event held in part to recognize the officers, Director of Public Safety, Michael Corcoran stated, “The outstanding actions of all officers undoubtedly saved the victim’s life. Our officers displayed exceptional bravery, teamwork, and resourcefulness in highlighting the unwavering commitment of the Morristown Bureau of Police in safeguarding the lives of others.”
