WASHINGTON, DC - Texas Republican Congressman Brandon Gill has announced plans to file articles of impeachment against US District Judge James Boasberg after the Judge issued a restraining order to stop President Donald Trump’s use of the 1798-vintage Alien Enemies Act. Trump has invoked the act to summarily deport illegal aliens belonging to the Venezuelan gang Tren de Aragua, which was recently classified as a Foreign Terrorist Organization.
Gill posted to X on Saturday, “I’ll be filing Articles of Impeachment against activist judge James Boasberg this week,” following the decision by the Obama-appointed Judge to interpose himself into the foreign policy and immigration processes constitutionally reserved to the Executive Branch, and the person of the President specifically.
In the early hours of Saturday, while deportations of Tren de Aragua criminals were already in progress, Boasberg issued a 14-day restraining order on these deportations. Further, he ordered that “any plane containing these folks that is going to take off or is in the air needs to be returned to the United States however that is accomplished,” according to The New York Post.
Gill explained in a subsequent post that the illegal immigrants in question are “foreign gangbangers,” writing, “The foreign gangbangers activist Judge James Boasberg wants to keep in our country were guilty of (among other things): - Kidnapping - Sexual abuse of a child - Aggravated assault - Prostitution - Robbery - Aggravated assault of a police officer Impeachment articles in process.”
As reported by Axios, the Trump Administration announced that it ignored the court order to turn around the airplanes in transit to El Salvador due to the flights being over international waters at the time of the order, rendering the ruling inapplicable citing two Senior White House Officials.
"If the Democrats want to argue in favor of turning a plane full of rapists, murderers, and gangsters back to the United States, that's a fight we are more than happy to take," White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt told Axios.
Leavitt later issued a written statement explaining, "The written order and the Administration's actions do not conflict. Moreover, as the Supreme Court has repeatedly made clear — federal courts generally have no jurisdiction over the President's conduct of foreign affairs, his authorities under the Alien Enemies Act, and his core Article II powers to remove foreign alien terrorists from U.S. soil and repel a declared invasion.”
"A single judge in a single city cannot direct the movements of an aircraft carrier full of foreign alien terrorists who were physically expelled from U.S. soil," she added.
The deported Tren de Aragua criminals will be held at the El Salvador Terrorism Confinement Center (CECOT), pursuant to an agreement between the Trump Administration and the government of Salvadoran President Nayib Bukele who shared dramatic footage to X of the prisoner transfer writing, “Today, the first 238 members of the Venezuelan criminal organization, Tren de Aragua, arrived in our country. They were immediately transferred to CECOT, the Terrorism Confinement Center, for a period of one year (renewable). The United States will pay a very low fee for them, but a high one for us.
"Over time, these actions, combined with the production already being generated by more than 40,000 inmates engaged in various workshops and labor under the Zero Idleness program, will help make our prison system self-sustainable. As of today, it costs $200 million per year.”
Border Czar Tom Homan announced that in addition to the 238 Tren de Aragua gang members, 21 members of the MS13 gang, also named as a Foreign Terrorist Organization by Trump, were deported to the Salvadoran facility.
He wrote, “Under President Trump’s leadership, this country is becoming safer every day.”
Gill’s announcement has been met with support and Congressman Eli Crane (R-AZ) expressed his support for Gill in a one-word post, “Support.” Rep. Andrew Clyde (R-GA) similarly wrote, “Let’s Go, @RepBrandonGill!”
