How An Ohio Birthday Party Turned Deadly As Bullets Flew

CINCINNATI, OH - Multiple people were shot early Sunday morning, March 1, after several shots were fired inside Riverfront Live, a music venue located along the Ohio River.

Nine people were shot at the venue, and all have non-life threatening injuries, Cincinnati police Interim Chief Adam Hennie said. The victims were transported to either UC Medical Center or Good Samaritan Hospital, WCPO reported. UC Medical Center confirmed they received eight patients from the shooting.

Two have been treated for their injuries and released, five are in stable condition and one is listed in critical condition. The first call came in around 1:00 a.m. for a report of a shooting at Riverfront Live, WLWT reported. Hennie said detailed officers were working the event, so they were able to quickly dispatch multiple units.

There is no suspect information at this time or details on what may have caused the shooting. Police have also not yet said if the suspected shooter or shooters are in custody or among the injured.

In the hours after the shooting, the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives (ATF) confirmed in a statement that they are assisting Cincinnati police in their investigation of the incident. The department said they are "deploying all resources to identify those responsible and seek justice for the victims."

Cincinnati Mayor Aftab Pureval reached to the news of the shooting, releasing a statement on X, posting,"Overnight in the East End, our community was victim to a senseless mass shooting. Thank you to the officers on site, the first responders for their immediate action, and all the hospital staff who worked to save lives this morning. This is unconscionable. Our prayers are with all the victims, and Law Enforcement has our full support to deliver justice. We will continue to keep the public up to date."

The management team for DJ Fresh, who says that he was performing at Riverfront Live when the shooting broke out, released a statement in the hours afterward responding to what happened.

"We are devastated by the horrific events that took place during the DJ Fresh Birthday Celebration. Our hearts go out to the victims, their families, and everyone impacted by this senseless act of violence. This event was intended to be an opportunity for us to come together and enjoy great music; and have fun celebrating life, it is deeply frustrating that the actions of one individual ruined the evening for so many."
