Salvadoran migrant, in the US illegally, charged in murder of two-year-old boy

PRINCE GEORGE’S COUNTY, MD - Nilson Trejo-Granados, 25 years old, has become the fifth person charged in the murder of two-year-old Jeremy Poou Caceres.

According to PJ Media, the two-year-old was walking with his mother, 17-year-old Rose Caceres, in Langley Park, MD on Feburary 8, 2024 when the pair became caught in the crossfire of a shootout. Jeremy was taken to Children's National Hospital, where he was pronounced dead. Rose Caceres was also taken to a local hospital for treatment of a non-lifethreatening leg wound.

The Prince George’s County Police Department announced on Monday that Trejo-Granados is being charged with first and second degree murder.

Voz Media reported that this week, it was confirmed that Trejo-Granados is a migrant that entered the United States illegally and already had a deportation order from a New Jersey judge.

According to a statement from ERO Baltimore spokesperson James Covington, “Nilson Noel Trejo-Granados is an unlawfully present 25-year-old Salvadoran national. On November 7, 2022, a Department of Justice immigration judge in Newark, New Jersey ordered Trejo-Granados’ removal from the United States.”

This is not the first time that Trejo-Granados has faced criminal charges while he has been in the United States.

Covington’s statement continued, “The Montgomery County Police Department (MCPD) arrested Trejo-Granados March 21, 2023, and charged him with theft: $100 to under $1,500. Those charges remain pending. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) lodged an Immigration Detainer on Trejo-Granados.”

According to FOX5, ICE records show that MCPD did not honor the ICE detainer, as Trejo-Granados was released from custody on March 27, 2023.

Trejo-Granados was arrested once again by MCPD on September 26, 2023 and charged with theft under $100 and attempted obstruction and hinderance.

“ICE lodged an Immigration Detainer with the MCDC (Montgomery County Detention Center) on Trejo-Granados, September 27, 2023; however, MCDC refused to honor the detainer and released Trejo-Granados from custody October 12, 2023,” Covington added.

In addition to his murder charges, Trejo-Granados is also being charged with two counts of first-degree assault, second degree assault, attempted first degree murder and attempted second degree murder. All these charges are related to the death of two-year-old Jeremy Poou Caceres.

Trejo-Granados and the other four suspects are being held without bail.
