NEW YORK, NY—  A brutal stabbing spree that left two victims wounded in New York City’s Grand Central subway station Christmas Eve ended with the successful arrest of a suspect according to an NYPD spokesman. The department told reporters that Jason Sargeant, 28, of Brooklyn, was arrested in connection to the stabbings which police characterized as random.

As reported by Fox News, the Tuesday stabbing happened shortly before 10:15 am with NYPD officers responding to a 911 call reporting the assault at the massive underground station. The report revealed that two people: a 26-year-old woman and a 42-year-old man suffered severe slashing wounds. The woman was slashed in the neck, and the man sustained a defensive slash wound to the left wrist.

Police told the outlet that the man was the first victim and was attacked on a stairway that leads to the station’s southbound platform entrance. The attack allegedly began with an argument which ended with Sargeant slashing the man. Within moments Sargeant reportedly attacked the woman slashing her neck tear a turnstile.

Both victims were treated by FDNY EMS at the scene and were transported in stable condition to a nearby hospital. A knife was recovered nearby.

According to The New York Post, prosecutors told the court that Sargeant “was screaming ‘f–k all of these people’” as he began slashing at the victims. An assistant district attorney told the Manhattan judge “The victim was bleeding profusely on the scene. He suffered a deep cut to his wrist, lost a significant amount of blood, requiring a tourniquet to be applied on the scene, and was taken to Bellevue, where he remains for treatment.”

In the second attack on the female victim he allegedly, “punched her in the face before then lunging at her with the knife, causing a small cut to her neck.” The post identified the second victim as Imani-Ciara Pizarro.

Fox reported that Sargeant is facing two counts of first-degree reckless endangerment, several second-degree counts of menacing, criminal possession of a weapon, harassment, and disorderly conduct charges.

During his arraignment Wednesday night, the suspect is said to have spotted his mother in the courtroom and reacted by calling out for her frantically. “Wait, mom, I didn’t know you were here! I didn’t know you were here!” He said, struggling with court officers. “Wait! Wait! Wait! Wait!,” he cried as he was led away.

The post reported that Pizarro told the outlet she was on her phone at the time of the attack and said, “I wish I could be able to travel to my livelihood and not be attacked. I wish there were cops in Grand Central when I was attacked, there were none. I was running for help and there was no one there.”
