School shooting by trans-identifying suspect thwarted after FBI receives tip about the plot

MOORESVILLE, IN - Law enforcement authorities in this small suburban Indianapolis community report that a plot to conduct a “Parkland-like” school shooting on Valentine’s Day was thwarted when the FBI was alerted to the scheme and contacted the Mooresville Metropolitan Police Department, Fox News Digital reports. In a statement, the FBI field office in Indianapolis said the feds “swiftly coordinated” with local authorities to investigate the scheme. 

A transgender high school student, Trinity Shockley, 18, a female who pretends to be a man, was charged by police Thursday with a count of conspiracy to commit murder and two felony counts of intimidation with a threat to commit terrorism, court documents obtained by Fox showed. Shockley goes by the name Jamie or Dex. 

The Valentine’s Day date is significant because it is the anniversary of the shooting at Marjory Stoneman Douglas High School in Parkland, Florida, on Feb. 14, 2018. 

According to police, the FBI received a tip that Shockley was planning a shooting and had access to an AR-15 while also ordering a ballistic vest. The tip said the suspect was “infatuated” with the Parkland shooter, Nikolas Cruz. 

According to Sandy Hook Promise, an organization established after the Sandy Hook school shooting in Newtown, CT. in 2012, the tip originated on the organization’s “Say Something” anonymous reporting system, which immediately reported the threats to the FBI per the organization’s protocol. The Sandy Hook shooting took the lives of 20 first-graders and six adult staff members. 

Police obtained a search warrant and searched Shockley’s home on Wednesday. They discovered a “shrine” of recent mass school shooters, including Cruz and Dylann Roof, who conducted a mass shooting at a church in Charleston, South Carolina, killing multiple people. The display also included Ethan Crumbley, who conducted a 2021 shooting at Oxford High School in Oxford, Michigan in 2021. Court documents also showed Shockley had a photo album of mass shooters and buttons with their faces on them. 

Police also seized notebooks from Shockley’s room, which said he identified as “Dex…a transgender male [who has] a lot of homicidal thoughts.” 

“These thoughts never seem to stop, you may believe that I am some edgelord, but in reality, I”m just a loser,” Shockley wrote on Dec. 16, 2024. “I am grateful for my chance to live, but in reality, I am scared of living. Is it the government you ask? No. It is this sad reality of living with piece(s) of shit…I hope whoever reads this takes acknowledgment and maybe use it for your massacre. :)” 

Other entries showed Shockley wanted to hurt people and said people need to be “killed” and “wiped away from humanity.” 

“You all need to be burnt out, killed, wiped away from humanity,” she wrote. “Right now, I want to pull out a [sic] AR-15.” 

Investigators found archives of Shockley’s Discord and Snapchat accounts that mentioned school shootings; her name on Discord was “Crazy Nikolaz.” 

On Jan. 12, 2025, a conversation on the platform with someone named “TCC Mama” showed Shockley claiming to have an AR-15 and said she was prepared for “Parkland part two.” 

“Jamie: ‘Yeah, I’ll be honest. I’m close to shooting mine up. I have an AR-15.’ 

“TCC Mama: ‘OMD that’s so cool!! But wait, do you have a solid plan?’ 

“Jamie: ‘Parkland part two. Of course. I’ve been planning this for a YEAR.’ 

“TCC Mama: ‘You don’t plan on killing yourself right??’ 

“Jamie: ‘No.’ 

“TCC Mama: ‘Okay, your secret is safe with me bro. Kids are awful. And if you do carry it out good luck.’” 

Authorities say the plan was for Shockley to commit the shooting during lunchtime since “that would present the most target-rich environment.” 

Court documents showed that Shockley told authorities it was a joke. 

“[Shockley] stated that [Shockley] wanted to recreate [what] Cruz did, but [Shockley] would never do anything like that,” the documents said. “It was out of rage. [Shockley] is trying to get help with it. [Shockley] wanted to be in home school because of how bad the thoughts got…” 

Shockley claimed she was being bullied and teased after being involved in a crash where a drunk driver hit her.

The New York Post reported that Shockley had been the beneficiary of a community fundraiser after she was hit by a drunk driver on her way to school in 2022. 

The Post reported Shockley is the daughter of a 19-year military veteran and suffered head injuries and numerous broken bones in the 2022 crash. WRTV reported at the time that Shockley was unable to walk for days after the crash. 

The drunk driver, Michael Simpson, 35, committed suicide a year later before his case was resolved. A detective investigating the mass shooting scheme said Shockley expressed guilt about Simpson’s suicide. 

Court documents also showed that Shockley attempted to get mental health resources from the school system, however, her father, who said he “did not believe in mental health treatment,” denied that request. 

That points to the contention by some that while anti-gun zealots often paint school shootings as being emblematic of a gun problem, some argue that, more often than not, there is a mental health aspect. Some also contend that the sudden social contagion of trans-identifying people is likewise an indication of a systemic mental health crisis among children and teens. 

In response to the thwarted shooting, Nicole Hockley, co-founder of Sandy Hook Promise, who lost her son Dylan in the Sandy Hook shooting, issued the following statement: 

“This is a bittersweet day for us. While we remember the lives tragically taken at Marjorie [sic] Douglas High School seven years ago today, we are grateful that the Mooresville community was spared. This story illustrates the lifesaving impact of recognizing warning signs, taking it seriously, and acting immediately to get help. It only takes one person to ‘say something’ for lives to be saved. Threats are never a joke. 

“The outcome from these events in Mooresville provides renewed hope that we can end school shootings. Learn the warning signs of violence and become an upstander in prevention, rather than a bystander to violence…”
