WASHINGTON, DC- For anyone who was a Boy Scout growing up, the organization was an essential part of their life. The organization taught numerous life and practical skills, among them reverence, courage, self-sufficiency, love of country, and reliance on one another. In 2025, that organization is a shell of its former self.
When the Boy Scouts of America was chartered by Congress in 1916, its purpose was defined as:
“That the purpose of this corporation shall be to promote, through organization and co-operation with other agencies, the ability of boys to do things for themselves and others, to train them in scoutcraft, and to teach them patriotism, courage, self-reliance and kindred virtues.”
As happened with many social organizations, the BSA has decided to venture down the woke highway, a development that has not gone unnoticed by Secretary of War Pete Hegseth, Not the Bee reports.
The Congressional charter didn’t specify that the BSA would be an official part of the U.S. government, however, it awarded them several perks over the years. An example is a law that gives the organization access to military bases, their facilities, and the use of their vehicles at the discretion of the Secretary of War. Hegseth, however, has seen enough.
According to NPR, Hegseth is planning to cut military ties with Scouting America, the new name for the Boy Scouts of America. The reason, NPR wrote, is because “the group once known as the Boy Scouts is no longer a meritocracy and has become an organization designed to ‘attack boy-friendly spaces.’”
NPR reported that Hegseth calls the organization “genderless” and hyper-focused on promoting diversity, equity, and inclusion.
While the hyper-liberal NPR claims Heseth doesn’t have the legal authority to make the changes, that may not be the case. Under the law, any support from the military is at the discretion of the Secretary. In addition, the law specifically mentions “The Boy Scouts of America” as being a beneficiary of that support, an organization that no longer exists.
Last year the Boy Scouts of America officially changed its name to Scouting America and is no longer the same organization that was chartered in 1916. Nor does it resemble the organization that existed when the law was passed, which allowed military resources to be used at its meetings.
As opposed to when the organization was chartered, they now allow gay leaders, gay scouts, girl scouts, and even permit all-female troops that exclude boys from joining. There is no such provision for all-male scout troops.
The Boy Scouts of America no longer exists. As such, Secretary of War Pete Hegseth appears well within his authority to cut ties with it.
