Attorney Stephen Geday shares his journey from prosecutor to business legal strategist, which has been shaped by the courage and faith that have guided him through some of the darkest situations a courtroom can reveal.

Geday joined hosts Kyle Reyes and Greg Farah on the "Sheepdog and Shepherd" podcast to share how his upbringing, legal career, and his faith shaped his approach to justice. Geday began as an Assistant District Attorney, building trial experience before moving to the private sector. What set him apart was his heart for people.

He explained, "I've always been interested in the people. That's what underlies anything, you know, business problems, business solutions. But also in the legal world. As far as being a litigator, I've always been drawn to not the spreadsheets and the ledgers and the high level corporate stuff. But how do people's lives get touched by what happens in the courtroom?"

That belief guided his approach to which cases he would take. He shared a moment from early in his career when a prospective client came seeking help, only for Geday's instincts to steer him in a very different direction.

What he uncovered was a horrifying trafficking situation involving young women held in fear. His choice to follow his conscience led to a rescue operation and the perpetrator's conviction. "Thank God I did that," Geday reflected.

When asked how his faith influences his work, Geday described a steady presence that has strengthened him during his most challenging cases. "My faith, honestly, has always been more of a quiet inner confidence. I've not been one of those sort of flamboyant shadow from the rooftops about my beliefs and faiths. I will say that my belief in God has been more of a quiet calm in storms."

His family history also helped shape his resilience. His father and uncle grew up under Soviet oppression in Hungary. Hardship was their norm, and that influenced Geday's convictions about stepping forward when situations looked bleak.

"Expect hard times stories, and to me, it's always the idea of kind of evil triumphs when good men do nothing. And another one that resonated always with me was, you know, it's always darkest before the dawn,” he shared.

When the weight of a case felt overwhelming, he found strength in remembering the sacrifices of Christ. "Whatever I'm facing is nothing compared to what my faith has put forth in terms of what Jesus Christ has faced."

The conversation also discussed the balance between justice and mercy. As co-host Greg noted, the Bible holds a different picture of justice, reminding believers of Christ taking the punishment humanity deserved. It frames how law enforcement and legal practitioners should see their work.

Geday added that personal conscience plays a critical role in the justice system. "We do live in a society ruled by law and order and reason, and lacking that magic eight ball, the closest we can get to that in an aggregated society is just individuals listening to their souls and practicing with that."

For him, pursuing justice is not about personal pride. It is about saving lives, protecting the vulnerable, and refusing to look away when others stay silent. "This is precisely the time to have faith in you're here for the right reason, and you can do it whatever it is you need to do. Whatever the challenge is, step it up. This is your time."

Geday now leads multiple ventures supporting legal professionals and businesses. He directs Esquire Strategic Partners and also runs Thriving Law, a community for lawyers seeking purpose and growth in their careers.
