Snopes: Trump was right, daughter of judge in hush money case DOES have ties to Biden and Harris campaigns

MANHATTAN, NY - The far-left media has spent a lot of time trying to debunk claims made by former President Trump and his supporters that the daughter of Judge Juan Merchan, who is overseeing the so-called “hush money” case involving the former president, used to work on campaigns for Joe Biden and Kamala Harris.

However, none other than Snopes–a left-leaning “fact-checking” site– has confirmed that Merchan’s daughter, Loren, worked on both. 

According to Snopes, Loren Merchan was the director of “digital persuasion” for Harris’ failed 2020 presidential campaign and also worked “indirectly” for the Biden-Harris 2020 campaign via a communications company that provides services for far-left progressive campaigns. 

Trump, who believes the vast number of criminal complaints he is faced with are politically motivated, has continually targeted his anger toward the judge and his daughter, according to Forbes. The former president and 2024 Republican nominee again blasted both this week, coming only two days after Mercan issued a “limited” gag order in the case. 

In a post on Truth Social, President Trump said the judge was “totally compromised” and should be removed from the case at once. He then turned his attention to Loren Merchan, calling her a “Rabid Trump Hater, who has admitted to having conversations with her father about me.” Mr. Trump didn’t provide any details to back up that claim. 

The so-called “hush money” case is set to begin jury selection on April 15. 

Mercan imposed the gag order in response to President Trump's post on Truth Social saying the judge couldn’t be impartial in the case given his daughter’s ties to Biden and Harris through Authentic Campaigns. 

Mr. Trump also turned his ire to Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg, claiming the calorically challenged DA is beholden to Democrats and that Bragg was influenced by one of his prosecutors to bring the case forward. 

Mercan called Mr. Trump’s statements “threatening, inflammatory, and denigrating” in his gag order while pertaining to local and federal officials, court staff, and “private individuals, including grand jurors performing their civic duty.” Mr. Trump is facing 34 charges related to allegedly “falsifying business records” to reimburse his disgraced former attorney, Michael Cohen, for payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, with whom the former president allegedly had an affair. The former president has pleaded not guilty to the charges. 

Despite claims that Loren Merchan didn’t work for Biden or Harris, a LinkedIn profile reviewed by Snopes and a 2019 report listing staff members on Giggles Harris’ 2020 presidential campaign, “Kamala Harris for the People,” prove that Loren Merchan worked there. 

A June 2022 wedding notice posted in Politico Playbook confirmed that Loren Merchan is the daughter of Judge Merchan. 

Authentic Campaigns website listed Kamala Harris for the People and the Biden-Harris campaign as clients.  

Mercan was allegedly assigned the case based on a “rotation system,” according to the AP. The usual leftist excuse makers claim that the judge’s ties to his daughter and her advocacy for Trump’s political opponent are not necessarily a basis for the recusal or dismissal of Mercan from the case. For example, Gene Rossi, a lawyer “with nearly three decades of criminal and civil litigation experience at the U.S. Department of Justice” [swamp creature] told Newsweek that: 

The judge himself will decide whether he needs to recuse himself. [...] He has “broad discretion” on this issue. The daughter’s employment by Democrats is an insufficient basis for recusal. 

A justice ethics expert at New York University, Stephen Gillers, agreed with Rossi, telling PolitiFact that “the political views of the judge’s children [are not] a basis to recuse.” 

Nonetheless, despite the left’s bloviating that the former president, his two sons Don Jr. and Eric, and other conservatives were wrong about the judge’s connection to Biden and Harris, Snopes, of all sites, proved them to be 100% correct.
