Son admits to decapitating mother one day before her birthday

GLENDALE, AZ - Authorities with the Glendale Police Department (GPD) announced the arrest of a man who allegedly killed and decapitated his mother at her home one day before her birthday.

According to AZ Central, 25-year-old Alejandro David Gonzalez has been accused of stabbing and decapitating his mother, 49-year-old Teresa Dejesus Cruz Rubio on Friday, September 27th, just one day before her birthday. GPD Sergeant Bryan Hoskin said in a statement, "It's absolutely horrific. It's horrific to the family that had to endure this. It's horrific to the officers who had to go and see this. It's horrific and traumatic to people who live in the area."

Police responded to a call at the mother's residence at 11:41 p.m. on Friday. The caller reportedly told police that their family member was dead and that her head had been cut off. Upon arriving on scene, officers found the body underneath a blanket with her head at her side. The body also had multiple stab wounds to her abdomen, chest and arms. The report from the officers also noted that there was blood throughout the apartment and a knife block in the kitchen sink with one knife appearing to have blood and hair on it. Officers also found a bloody shower with water running.

The family member, who was Rubio's sister, told police that Rubio's birthday was on Saturday, September 28th, and that they had planned a party for Friday afternoon. The sister had last talked with Rubio around 3:40 p.m. and at that time, she confirmed that she would be attending the party. After Rubio didn't show at the party, the sister and other family members went to the woman's home, but could not reach the victim. This was around 8:00 p.m. The family member came back later with a locksmith to gain entry to the home.

Family members told police that Gonzalez was believed to be living at the residence with his mother and that he was recently released from jail. They also told police that they believed Gonzalez had mental health issues and that he was capable of killing his mother. The sister also told investigators that she recently loaned Rubio a burgundy GMC Yukon, which was missing.

The police report stated that video surveillance from a neighbor's camera showed the car going westbound from Rubio's residence around 5:00 p.m. on that Friday. A Phoenix police officer was able to locate the vehicle, which was in the parking lot of a gas station in the area of 99th Avenue and Interstate 10. Around 3:30 p.m. on Saturday, September 28th, police took Gonzalez into custody without further incident.

According to police, he appeared to have dried blood on his pants and socks along with injuries to his hands and arms. The police report states that Gonzalez told officers that his mom had picked him up from jail and dropped him off at her house. He told officers that he had smoked methamphetamines with a black man who was biking in the neighborhood and that the man had "done something" to his mom and then "had me stab her or something."

He then claimed that the man had already stabbed him mom, so he allegedly starting cutting his mom's head off, asserting that the man told him "she won't feel anything." According to the report, there is no evidence suggesting that anyone other than Gonzalez killed his mom. Hoskin said that the investigation is ongoing and that detectives are looking into the claims of another suspect.

Hoskin said, "After the interview, Gonzalez was booked into the county jail system for murder of the first degree, premeditated, a felony as well as theft of means of transportation, a felony crime." Gonzalez does have a criminal history and is currently being held on a cash bond of $1 million.
