South Carolina: 3 A.M. Waffle House Fight Ends in Shooting, Attempted Murder Charge

MONCKS CORNER, SC - A South Carolina Waffle House lived up to the brand’s reputation as the scene of late-night hijinks involving overly intoxicated patrons after an early morning disturbance in which a woman was shot, WCIV News 4 reported.

At around 3 a.m. Saturday morning, Moncks Corner police responded to a Waffle House at 309 N. Highway 52 on a report of a physical altercation. Officers were told that someone had brandished a firearm in the parking lot, the agency said.

On arrival, responding officers found two women fighting in the parking lot and determined one had been shot. The injured victim was transported to an area hospital and was listed in stable condition, police said.

WCBD 2 News reported that the suspect, Shanique Tywanda Brittain, was arrested and charged with attempted murder, possession of a weapon during the commission of a violent crime, and presenting a firearm.

Police Chief Antwan Richardson said investigators are still gathering evidence, interviewing witnesses, and reviewing available information to determine the exact circumstances. The victim’s name was not released.

“Violence in our community will not go unnoticed or unanswered. Under no circumstances is this type of behavior acceptable,” Richardson said in a statement.
