MARION COUNTY, SC - A former Pee Dee teacher already facing criminal sexual conduct charges involving minors now faces additional charges, according to the Marion County Sheriff's Office (MCSO).
The alleged suspect, Eric Favor Jr., has also been charged with two counts of knowingly exposing others to HIV, WMBF News reported. Evidence obtained through the ongoing investigation resulted in the new charges, MCSO said in a statement.
Records from the South Carolina Department of Education show that Favor had held an educator certificate in the state for more than six years. At the time of his arrest, officials said he was a social studies teacher at Lower Richland High School in Richland County School District One.
He had previously taught at Johnakin Middle School in Marion County from 2019 to 2022. District officials said that Favor resigned on February 10. That same day, MCSO charged him with third-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, second-degree criminal sexual conduct with a minor, criminal conspiracy, and promoting prostitution of a minor.
Deputies said both sexual conduct charges involve victims younger than 16 and stem from a 2024 investigation involving two minors. Favor is accused of criminal sexual conduct with a 15-year-old boy after he took two teenage brothers to a local festival, according to Post and Carrier.
On March 9, the State Board of Education temporarily suspended Favor's teaching certificate until a hearing is held or the matter is otherwise resolved. Favor remains at the Marion County Detention Center, and the investigation remains ongoing.
