Driver Wanted in Shooting Probe Vanished After Fatal Milwaukee Collision

MILWAUKEE, WI – Authorities in Milwaukee are actively searching for a suspect driver involved in a fatal collision during a police pursuit earlier in August, with officials saying the vehicle is also connected to an ongoing shooting investigation which spawned the pursuit in question.

According to authorities, Milwaukee Police officers initiated a pursuit with the suspect vehicle at approximately 7:40 p.m. on August 23rd after officers observed the vehicle wanted in connection with an ongoing shooting investigation in the area of 60th and Meinecke.

Upon patrol units activating their lights and attempting to pull the driver over, officials say the driver refused to stop and proceeded to flee from officers.

Police ended the pursuit after the suspect driver reportedly collided with another vehicle near 51st and West Center Street. Unfortunately, the driver of the vehicle the suspect collided with sustained serious injuries from the crash and died at the scene. Authorities have not publicly identified the deceased driver as of this writing.

As for the suspect driver, authorities say the individual fled the scene on foot and has yet to be apprehended. Officials have not released any details regarding the identity of the at-large suspect.

On the same day of the fatal crash, five separate shootings, one of which were fatal, occurred within the city, with Milwaukee Police still actively investigating the incidents. A 43-year-old victim was injured in a shooting at approximately 9:50 a.m. in the area of 24th and Hopkins, with police confirming a known suspect is being sought in connection to the incident.

It’s unclear whether the shooting suspect is the same suspect involved in the fatal crash as of this writing.

The other shootings that took place on August 23rd involved a 45-year-old victim who was wounded at approximately 6:10 p.m. near 69th and Carmen, a 45-year-old wounded in a shooting at approximately 6:45 p.m. near 26th and Atkinson, a 14-year-old injured in a shooting at approximately 9:49 p.m. near 20th and Cleveland, and a 16-year-old who was fatally shot at approximately 9:40 p.m. in the area of 12th and Concordia.

No additional suspects have been named by police in connection with the aforementioned four shootings.
