RENSSELAER, NY - Two illegal aliens reportedly linked to an infamous Venezuelan gang are facing criminal charges stemming from the robbery and killing of a man at a Connecticut motel room.
Gregory Marlyn Galindez-Trias, 24, and Moises Alejandro Condollo-Urbaneja, 22, were apprehended Wednesday in Rensselaer, New York, according to the New York Post. The pair were allegedly attempting to use a stolen credit card at an Amtrak train station- in the company of their one and three year old children.
Stamford, Connecticut police had sought the pair for their alleged killing of Angel Samaniego, 59, at a Super 8 motel in the city. Galindez-Trias and Condollo-Urbaneja allegedly shot Samaniego in the chest, before robbing him of his possessions and fleeing the scene of the crime in his personal vehicle. The pair were allegedly apprehended in possession of Samaniego's stolen property, according to the Stamford Advocate.
During a New York extradition hearing, Condollo-Urbaneja brought up the Tren de Aragua Venezuelan gang, expressing fear that the gang might take action against her after her arrest. Neither Condollo-Urbaneja or Galindez-Trias tried to contest their extradition to Connecticut, enabling them to face criminal charges in the state. They're currently facing charges of larceny, fleeing justice, identity theft, with authorities continuing the invesitgation into Samaniego's fatal shooting.
Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) placed a notice to hold the couple, according to the Rensselaer Police Department- making it certain they are in the country illegally. The federal agency also revealed that Galindez-Trias infiltrated the southern border in Texas in 2022, but was quickly detained and released into American communities- a hotly criticized component of President Joe Biden's "open doors" migration and cheap labor policy. Condollo-Urbaneja is believed by ICE to be a "gotaway-" an illegal alien who infiltrated the southern border without being apprehended by the federal government.
Speaking to the Post, Rensselaer Police Chief Warren Famiglietti expressed concern that the vicious Venezuelan gang could establish a foothold in the upstate New York town. The gang has established a presence in the United States through arriving illegal aliens under Biden's administration.
“I think it’s clear that that network is expanding and that we’re seeing these groups in places we’ve never seen before. So is it possible it’s going to end up here? For sure. But has it happened yet? No, Everything’s transient right now."
“It’s not something that we’ve really ever dealt with before. It worries me because we’re a small city with 3.3 square miles. We have 10,000 residents. We do not have a lot of resources so we rely heavily on county resources, and those are not available all the time."
One of the couple's children is an American citizen, with the other three members of the family Venezuelan nationals.
