HOUSTON, TX - A teenage boy was riding his bike when he made a chilling discovery in the Addicks Reservoir, a remote location that is frequented by hikers and cyclists.
Around 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, April 9, the Houston Police Department (HPD) received a report that a teenage boy discovered a woman's body, ABC13 reported. The teen said he found the woman's body, and when he approached another man in the area, he confirmed it was a body and called 911.
Officers who arrived on the scene said the body showed signs of trauma and called in homicide detectives to start an investigation. Lt. Larry Crowson told HTX News that an initial examination suggests that the deceased woman is between the ages of 30 and 40.
Footage obtained by KHOU 11 shows investigators at the scene, which is located away from a road. On Thursday afternoon, the HPD attempted to get an ATV to tackle the challenging terrain to help further the investigation.
"This is a flood control reservoir. It's dry," said Lt. Larry Crowson, per the outlet. "So right now, people use it to hike, ride their bikes, and do a lot of recreation out there. But it is very isolated." The woman's body was found in a grassy area near the water, KHOU 11 reported. It is unclear if the body was pulled from the water or if she was found dead in the grass.
The HPD has not publicly shared any suspect details and has not yet determined a cause of death for the woman. Investigators did say, however, that the investigation's circumstances were suspicious.
