DORRIS, CA - Two teens have been apprehended in connection to an Oct. 4 mass shooting at a Redding, California mall in which two individuals were killed, and three more seriously injured.
Andrew Greer-Herrera, 19, was arrested in the small town of Dorris, California late on Tuesday night, according to the Redding Record Searchlight. The Redding Police Department indicated that Greer-Herrera attempted to flee from authorities when confronted in the small Siskiyou County town.
The other suspect in the shooting, 18-year old Trevon Evanoff, was apprehended by Sparks, Nevada law enforcement on Oct. 6. He is detained in the Washoe County Jail on a charge of murder.
Two men were shot and killed in the early morning shooting at the mall. Three others were transported to an area hospital, with two being discharged from the facility after recieving treatment for non-life-threatening injuries. One woman remains hospitalized. Isaiah Jacob Stanley, 22, and Winfred Avant Jr., 30, have been identified as the two deceased individuals. Both were residents of Redding.
The Redding Police Department assisted local law enforcement authorities in obtaining Greer-Herrera. The search for the suspect reportedly extended to southern Oregon, according to authorities. Investigators have stated that individuals known to Greer-Herrera helped harbor the suspect from arrest- pledging that those individuals will face charges related to helping him evade the police.
Redding Police indicated that Greer-Herrera was also facing murder charges in a Facebook post, which the suspect was pictured inside a police facility.
“We intend to submit criminal cases to the District Attorney for review, recommending felony charges related to harboring a homicide suspect for those who assisted Greer-Herrera from being brought to justice," the Redding Police Department indicated in the Facebook statement.
Charges from the mall mass shooting aren't the only allegations that Greer-Herrera faces. The youth also faces criminal charges stemming from an alleged shooting that took place in Oregon last spring.
Both the suspects face extradition proceedings regarding transport to Shasta County, the jurisdiction in which the shooting took place. Redding locals have speculated about the motive of the act in Facebook comments left on the police department's official page, calling for other individuals to face criminal charges for their alleged role in the killings.
Neither individual have entered a plea in response to the charges as of Wednesday. It's unclear if they intend to contest extradition.
