Small Tennessee Town Shocked by Deadly Family Murder-Suicide

WAVERLY, TN – A small town roughly 75 miles east of Nashville was rocked earlier in January after a welfare check revealed an unsettling murder-suicide scene inside a home, with authorities saying a 35-year-old woman killed her two young boys and her elderly grandmother before turning the gun on herself.

On January 2nd, Humphreys County Sheriff's deputies reportedly responded to a residence located along East Little Richland Road in Waverly regarding a welfare check where they discovered the bodies of 32-year-old Heather Thompson, 14-year-old Isaiah Thompson, 4-year-old Arius Thompson, and 88-year-old Evelyn Thompson.

According to Sheriff Chris Davis, investigators believe Heather fatally shot her two sons and her grandmother before turning the weapon on herself. The Humphreys County sheriff didn’t reveal any possible motive in the jarring case, but did tell members of the press, “I know the family. We're going to do right by them. We're going to respect them, and we're going to do right by them.”

Heather was reportedly estranged from the boys’ father, Biah Thompson, who resides in New Mexico. The children’s father shared his ongoing grief on Facebook while asking for donations to bring his children home back to New Mexico where they can be laid to rest.

“This morning I got a [call] that I don’t [wish] on any other parent,” Biah wrote on his post, adding, “As a father it hurt and shattered my soul to hear my sons, Arius(Ari) and Isaiah have been taken from me and are no longer with us. They were just babies. Every second of today I wish I could just wake up.”

Biah set up a GoFundMe in an effort to help cover the associated funeral costs, telling would-be donors that “anything helps.”

Sheriff Davis confirmed that there were no prior calls to the residence regarding domestic violence incidents or mental health crises. Biah has also not shared any public statements alluding to past or current concerns regarding the mental health of his estranged wife.
