Transgender Antifa "member" arrested for bombing outside Alabama Attorney General's office

MONTGOMERY, AL- On February 24, a bombing occurred outside the Alabama Attorney General's Office in Montgomery. Surveillance footage captured an individual, later identified as Kyle Benjamin Douglas Calvert, who has ties to Antifa, near the scene just before the explosion.

Calvert, 26, from Irondale, Alabama, was subsequently arrested and indicted on federal charges related to the incident.

The explosive device used in the bombing was described as an improvised explosive device (IED), containing nails and shrapnel to enhance its destructive capability.

US attorney's office detention memo stated, "That device had the characteristics of an IED, and Calvert added a substantial number of nails and other shrapnel to increase its destructive capability."

Calvert faces charges including malicious use of an explosive and possession of an unregistered destructive device. This information is supported by a detention memo from a US attorney's office.

Law enforcement officials discovered stickers advocating for various ideologies, including Antifa, on state buildings around the time of the bombing. Some of these stickers prominently featured Antifa messaging, with slogans like "Support your local antifa," “Friends don’t let friends become cops,” and “Topple all hierarchies” emblazoned on them.

According to the charging documents, Antifa is often linked with anarchist violent extremists. These individuals not only oppose fascism but also reject capitalism and the current US government. They advocate violence as a means to accomplish their objectives.

Online videos have emerged depicting Calvert expressing solidarity with Hamas, a Palestinian militant organization. In one of these videos, Calvert drew comparisons between supporting Hamas and historical revolutionary movements.

The investigation into Calvert's actions revealed evidence suggesting a broader pattern of political activism. Prosecutors highlighted Calvert's professed belief in violence directed against the government.

Attorney General Steve Marshall expressed relief at Calvert's arrest, emphasizing the importance of removing such individuals from the streets to safeguard public safety. Marshall commended the collaborative efforts of federal, state, and local law enforcement agencies in swiftly bringing the suspect to justice.

In a statement Marshall said, "My staff and I are breathing a collective sigh of relief this morning knowing that this individual has been taken off the streets."

"Although more information will be provided in the weeks to come," he continued. "I think it is safe to say that this was not a random act of violence. We are grateful to our federal and local partners for their assistance in this matter and are pleased that the offender faces federal charges carrying significant prison time."

If convicted, Calvert could face significant prison time, with a mandatory minimum sentence of five years. The severity of the charges underscores the gravity of the alleged offenses.

The case against Calvert underscores the importance of vigilance and cooperation among law enforcement agencies to identify and neutralize potential threats before they escalate into violence.
